The next few days went by, and Killian couldn't get Emma alone, and when he did, it wasn't any longer than a few minutes at a time. One day in gym class, she was tying her shoes and he thought that it was the perfect time to ask her out, but the teacher beat him to it, and started class. It was the day that they were going to play soccer. The gym teacher picked Regina and Emma to be team captains. Without hesitation, Regina went first and picked Katherine. Everyone stared at Emma as she chose Ruby, then Robin, then Killian, then Belle. The game began after the teams were picked and Emma's team began to win. Regina wasn't happy, so she decided to play dirty. She purposely kicked the ball at Emma's head, which ended with her on the ground and everyone surrounding her. Killian and Robin came rushing to her side. Ruby and Belle not far behind them.

"Swan, are you okay?" Killian asked.

"Yeah, I think so," Emma said, holding her head.

Robin and Killian helped her to her feet by lifting her by her arms. They let go and she began to fall.

"Woah, woah, woah!" Killian said as he caught her.

"A little dizzy are we?" Robin asked with a laugh.

Emma simply nodded when the gym teacher told them to take her to the nurse's office. The boys held onto her and helped her walk to the room.

"Why would Regina do this?" Emma asked to either of the boys who were practically dragging her to the nurse's station.

"I don't know, love, maybe because we were winning," Killian suggested.

"Yeah. I also don't think she likes you very much," Robin said.

"No shit, Sherlock," Emma said sarcastically and rolled her eyes.

A smile broke out on Killian's face. Even with a head injury, and criticizing Robin, she was still cute. Nobody said anything else until they reached the nurse's office. The boys set her down and went to wait in the hallway. There was no way that she could have walked back to the gym without assistance. Emma came out a few minutes later with an ice pack on her head.

"You okay, Swan?" Killian asked.

"Yeah, I'm fine. A small headache and a little bit dizzy though," She explained.

"We can help you back to class if you want," Robin said.

"Yeah, uh thanks."

The rest of the day, Emma got help from either Ruby or Killian. When she got home, she wrote a note for her parents stating that she was sleeping and would probably be asleep for the rest of the night, but alas she didn't. She woke up around 7:30 and saw her phone had a text message from Killian.

'Hey, love, hope you are feeling better. I hope to see you tomorrow at school.'

It was so sweet how he checked up on her like that. Maybe Ruby was right, maybe he does like her, and maybe she was beginning to like him back.

The next day at school, Emma hadn't seen him much. At lunch, Robin went to go search for him. When he returned, he had a blank expression on his face.

"Robin, did you find Killian?" Ruby asked.

"Yeah, but he said that he wanted to be alone," Robin replied.

"Oh."

Lunch that day wasn't the same. It was different without Killian there. At the end of the day, Emma wanted to see what was really going on with him. She went up to him at his locker and tapped him on the shoulder. He turned around and looked at her. His face not changing one bit.

"Hey, where have you been all day?" Emma asked him.

"I've been around," Killian said harshly.

She ignored his tone of voice. "What happened?"

"It's not really any of your concern!" Killian yelled.

"Fine, then I won't help you if you're going to be an ass about it!" Emma yelled and walked away.

'What have I done?' He thought to himself.

Emma walked home and had a fit of rage. She hit and punched and kicked the side of her house until her knuckles bled. She threw books and pillows across the room in her bedroom. Killian's jet black hair, ocean blue eyes, and British accent that had a few hints of Irish in it earned him a lot, but not her time. Not anymore. She thought that he was different. That she could possibly have a relationship with him someday, but he proved to be just like all the rest. Not wanting to open himself up about anything, and eventually leaving her. It was strange. She didn't want to lose him, but he was never hers to begin with. She texted Ruby asking for her help.

'Ruby, we need to talk. You know how I said I didn't like Killian, well I kinda did, but he pushed me away. I don't know what to do.'

'Emma, I'm sorry. Maybe we should get some ice cream.'

'Okay.'

'I'll be over in five.'

Meanwhile, Killian was taking things in a different way. He just pushed the girl of his dreams out of his life, possibly forever. He wanted help. He texted Robin. He was the closest thing that he had to as a friend here in Storybrooke.

'Hey, Robin. You know how I said that I would prove to Emma that I was different?'

'Yeah...'

'Well I did the opposite actually.'

'What did you do?'

'I yelled at her.'

'Killian...'

'I know I know you're mad, but please, hear me out. I'm pissed at myself too. Tell me what to do.'

'You are going to have to really go big and wild for an apology, and if you get together and this happens again, well you should think of something even bigger.'

'Thanks.'

'No problem. What are friends for?'

'Yep. Thanks again, mate.'

Ruby picked Emma up and they drove down to their favorite ice cream parlor. Emma ordered rocky road, and Ruby ordered chocolate. After ice cream, Emma went home to greet her parents, eat dinner, take a shower and go to bed. Not once did she check her phone, which made Mary Margaret, her mother and David, her father very confused. Emma avoided her phone in case Killian decided to call or text, which she highly doubted. They were barely friends, so why would he care about her enough to make them friends again? He was as clueless as the rest.

Killian had planned out the apology gift to Emma, and it involved a lot of flowers, a lot patience, and a lot of time. He thought about texting her and asking for forgiveness many times, but ignored the urge. Right now, she needed her space, and it was better if she was left alone.
