Chapter 33
"Dylan!" I laughed. "Stop!"
"Okay," he laughed and stopped tickling me. We decided to buy a couple subs and go to the park for a picnic. We finished our subs and we both laid next to each other on the grass. When he stopped tickling me I laid on my back and looked up at the sky.
"I like that the paparazzi aren't here yet," I told me.
He reached over and held my hand, "Me too."
"I hate that they follow me around all the time. Don't they think people need privacy?"
He shrugged, "They need a story. It's not an excuse for what they do, but some people get desperate."
I sighed, "I wish I could stay here forever. Everything is so peaceful."
"Are you scared about the world you're getting into?"
"A little," I admitted, "But only because I was starting to like my life right now."
"You can concentrate on your life right now, you know? I know you love music and you love singing, but you can put school as your first priority. The media is always going to be there, but you can take a short break, at least until summer."
I looked over at him and smiled, "That's a good idea. I keep trying to figure out what I'm going to do. My first album is released and I toured all summer to promote it, but what's next? Do I quit the business? Do I release another album? I feel like there's so much pressure to figure out the next step in my career."
"Kayla, we're still too young to know what we're going to be doing for the rest of our lives. It's okay not to have those answers yet. Don't listen to what the media is saying; listen to what I'm telling you right now. You need time to live your life before you know those answers. Maybe that time is now."
"You'll help me right?"
He smiled, "I always will."
"Good," I smiled back. "I love you."
"I love you too Kayla."
"What's next in our journey?"
He sighed, "I think our next step is running."
"Really?"
"Yeah, think about it, the one thing that's changed so far since school started is joining the cross country team. That's our next step. You've never been on a sports team and it's been over a year since I have. It's good step back into our lives after the terrible year we had last year. What's after?"
I thought about it, "The step after that is a surprise."
"A surprise?" he looked at me.
I nodded, "Who knows when the next step will end and another will begin."
"You make a good point."
"Right now we will concentrate on school, us, friends, and running."
"Everything else will fall into place."
"I like that idea," I smiled.
"Me too."
"Should we run today?"
"Probably, coach did want us to practice when we weren't in school or at practice."
"Before we go do that, can I ask you something?" I questioned.
"You can ask me anything Kay."
"What do you think about me living on my own?"
"What do you mean?" He asked.
