Note: So this is the last chapter of part 2 of this book. Part 3 is Kayla's senior year and it is the part I am most excited about. Part 3 is where I have put in the most changes in the book compared to It Was A Mistake. Hopefully part 3 will be very relatable to all of you because I know it is to me. So far the story emphasized the struggle Kayla dealt with when it came to bullying she experienced in person, but the next part will deal more with cyberbullying. I hope there are still some of you reading the story and are enjoying seeing more of Kayla's story. :)
More updates soon! <3
Chapter 60
Lolita and David outdid themselves with the party. Dylan met me at my house and we walked together to Lolita and David's house. I could see the lights from the driveway shining through the window. Lights of every color shined brightly through the windows and reflected onto the sidewalk and onto the grass and the nearby vehicles. Some students already showed up for the party when we arrived. I walked in and saw that most of Lolita and David's things were gone. I suspect they moved them all into a locked room so the guests would not break or ruin anything. They moved the living room furniture to the outsides of the room to make space for the dance floor and the newly added stage. I suspect Lolita arranged the band and the karaoke while I am sure David prepared videos to play on the screen behind it.
"I am going to find David," I told Dylan as I let go of his hand.
He kissed my cheek, "I will search for our friends."
David could not go far if he is hosting a party. I walked up the stairs, but did not have luck finding him. I went back down the stairs and spotted him walking out of the kitchen. He smiled at me when he saw me. "Kay!" He hugged me, "Do you like it?"
"It looks fantastic! I loved the idea of having a party to replace the prom we missed and I love the idea of having that same part celebrate the end of the year, but you did not have to do all of this. I would have been happy with our regular parties."
David immediately shook his head upon hearing my protests. "You did deserve this. I am proud of you for everything you accomplished this year. I know you are still balancing the two halves of your life, but I want you to know that you are doing great. You are a natural at all of this. Your transition looked easier than what I went through."
"It did?" David's statement surprised me. I always thought his life looked easy. He took the celebrity path at such a young age that I never thought that type of transition would be that difficult. David stayed my hero most of my life even when I tried to deny it. Now that I know the troubles he went through it makes me realize that I should never have put him on such a pedestal. Making him my hero made me ignore some of the smaller struggles he continues to go through. "It never looked hard for you."
He pulled me into another hug. "I never talked about it, but of course it was hard for me. I know I have had this life for a long time, but that's what makes it even harder. I had to transition from a child star to a teen star to an adult star in front of the cameras, but you blossom in front of the cameras. Even through your struggles, the world sees someone triumphing over all the negative aspects life throws at her. I hope you look back on this year and think of it as one of your transition years. You are still getting used to your new life and you are trying to figure out who you are at the same time, but you manage to help so many people at the same time. All of our friends, including you, deserved an even bigger party than we put on tonight."
"I have no idea how I will repay you for everything you have done for me in the last couple years David. The idea I had of you changed so much as we got closer. I'm sorry for everything I thought about you before."
