Chapter 48

The principal formed a committee of students to organize our new dance idea. Lolita helped with the pictures and wrote at least one comment on every single picture. She also volunteered to help at the dance and even perform at the dance. With all the work she's done with me for this school, she told them she would forever be a volunteer for them. It did not take long to organize the dance.

Two weeks later I walked into the dance and could not believe all they had put together. They spread stars and streamers across every inch of the rooms. Twinkling lights hung from the ceiling and stage. It was the most incredible thing I had ever seen. Only one thing ruined my night: I had to catch a ride with Lolita and David. Dylan made a big deal out of asking me to the dance too. He asked me in front of all our friends at one of our meetings. He's been distant lately, and whenever I ask he refuses to talk about it. I thought we were getting past our problems, but apparently I am wrong. I just hope we can make it past this too.

"I can't believe how amazing this dance turned out," Lolita smiled at me. "I'm excited they let me come."

I smiled, "She let you come because you're part of the Danes Over Bullying group and you're the reason we've gotten rid of a lot of the bullying. She almost cried when you told her you would always be here to help the school."

She shook her head, "It wasn't me."

"Lolita, there's a reason the school didn't change until after you arrived."

"It was a group effort. I'm going to check out the pictures."

"Okay," I smiled, "I have to find Dylan."

I tried to explain to Dylan that I would help him and that he needed time to think things through, but he kept pushing away. I don't know if it's because he's listening to what they said or whether they said something else to him. I didn't find him in the gym so I wandered into the other room where everyone was dancing. I walked around and found Dylan by the wall talking to Bethany. What is he doing with her? Why would he need to talk to her at all? Especially after everything she's done to me in the past. Is Bethany the reason he ditched me? Did he take her here instead of me? I walked over and interrupted them.

"Am I interrupting something?" I snapped to catch their attention. Oh, if looks could kill.

"Hey," Dylan smiled at me. Is he serious?

"What's going on?" I asked.

"We were talking," Bethany said, "I'll go."

Bethany left and I looked back over at Dylan, "What's going on?"

"Nothing," he shrugged.

"Did I do something?" I asked him. "You've been so distant lately. I know something is wrong so tell me."

"I'm thinking Kayla, I'm fine. You're the one that told me to think about it remember?"

"Dylan, I'm begging you to tell me. We just got through a rough patch I don't want to go through another one. Now you're rubbing what I said into my face? What the hell? What's going on?"

He sighed, "It's nothing."

"Seriously?!" I shook my head. "I guess I'll find Lolita then. Have fun with your new girlfriend."

I went to turn around, but Dylan caught my hand, "Kayla?"

"What?" I asked slightly annoyed. If he would rather talk to Bethany than me then that's fine, but I won't stand around and watch him do it. If he doesn't want to be with me he needs to say it.
