Chapter 49
"Kayla Dane got herself into trouble again," someone on the TV spoke. "It seems an angry fight broke out in her house and that's why she moved out. Is it right for someone who's almost 17 to be living on her own? What are her parents thinking? We'll be taking some calls after this." I shook my head and put my hands into my hair. I know Bethany warned me, but is that the best they could make up?
"Calm down," David told me.
"Do you understand what's happening?! Zack and Damen leaked this to the media on purpose. This is all part of their plan to make me look like I'm out of control!"
"But you're not," Lolita stood up and stepped in front of me.
"But I am living on my own! That part is true!"
"Who cares?" David asked. "Who cares if that part is true? Just speak up! Go to an interview, talk about your music, and let them know that you're living on your own because you wanted to."
"David is right," Lolita told me. "If they can speak up against you then you can certainly speak up and stand up for yourself. In this case, fight fire with fire."
"But this is going to keep happening! The second I clear up this rumor they are going to start another one. How can I win?"
"And you'll clear that one up too. Don't give up."
I sighed, "Fine." The commercials were over and they started taking some calls on that show.
"I think Kayla is trying to grow up too fast," one lady said. "I would never allow my teenage daughter to live on her own whether she was famous or not."
"I agree," another guy interrupted. "She needs to be with her family."
I picked up my phone and called into the show. "We have someone on the line now," the host said, "Who is this?"
"This is Kayla Dane," I replied.
"Oh! Kayla is on the line! What do you think about this? Do you have any comment about the fight?"
"There was no fight," I answered. "I happen to have a great relationship with my family."
"Then why move out?"
"The house was already in my name. The house was given to me and it is signed in my name. My brother moved out and was not using it. Considering it is only blocks away from both my parents and my brother my family agreed it would teach me responsibility in a way where they could watch over me. I find nothing wrong with that and quite frankly I'm offended that so many people are turning on me because they think living on my own turns me into some kind of rebel."
"Was the source who leaked the fight information a friend of yours?"
"No," I quickly replied, "The person who lied to get this information out was clearly trying to make me look bad. I'm a good person."
"We don't doubt you," the host tried to recover from my responses.
"Yes you do," I interrupted. "A few minutes ago everybody there had something bad to say about me before even trying to figure out what the truth was. You need to learn your facts before running your mouth and gossiping about people."
I hung up and put my phone back in my pocket. "Wow," David said and sat back down on the couch.
"Good for you," Lolita said, "Let's see how he responds to that."
The host laughed it off, "She obviously has some issues she needs to work out."
The lady on the show nodded in agreement, "She's quite a hot head."
