Prom came faster than I was ready for. Lolita, Maria, and Anastasia helped me pick out the perfect dress. Lolita also made sure our hair and make-up stylists came over to help us. Maria and Anastasia loved it more than any of us. Lolita left early to meet up with David, but Maria, Anastasia, and I waited for Dylan to arrive with our limo. He looked amazing and he pulled me in for a kiss the second he saw me.
The ride to the venue for prom was short, but none of us were ready for how incredible it looked. The school chose Disney as their theme for prom, and they went all out. Pictures and cut outs of Disney characters were scattered around the venue with string lights hanging everywhere. One wall was devoted to small pictures of Disney characters and couples. The four of us walked closer to it.
"This is the coolest prom ever!" Maria exclaimed.
"It is," I agreed. "It's huge. I didn't think they could afford a venue like this. What's with these pictures?"
"The activities committee came up with the theme," Anastasia said. "Above every Disney character is the name of one of the seniors. We all get to take ours home at the end of the night."
"Really? That's awesome," Maria said.
"Look!" Anastasia point to the front of the room.
I smiled. It's a picture of my favorite Disney couple. The first Disney movie I ever watched was Aladdin. I loved Jasmine's long hair and I loved that she said no to every other suitor that showed up to her palace.
"Look closer," Maria told me, "To the names."
I took Dylan's hand and walked closer to the picture. Dylan noticed it before I did and he smiled. I smiled when I saw it and looked over at Dylan. "We're class couple," I said.
"Class couple: Kayla Dane and Dylan Montgomery," Dylan read above the Jasmine and Aladdin picture.
I smiled and hugged Dylan," We actually won class couple."
"I had a feeling we would."
"How did they know Aladdin was my favorite?" I asked.
"My guess is someone told them."
I looked around, "Where's Lolita? I know it was her."
Dylan laughed, "I have a feeling it was her too. I'm sure she's backstage warming up."
"Let's go," I pulled him along with me.
"Don't you want to dance first?"
"Later, I promise," I smiled at him. "Aladdin?" I said as I approached Lolita in her dressing room.
She grinned, "You're welcome."
"I knew it!"
She laughed, "Well, obviously it was me."
"Thank you," I told her.
"Welcome."
"Nice tux," I said to David. "It looks kind of familiar though."
"Kayla..."
"Fine," I shrugged, "I won't say you already wore that last year at your movie premiere."
Dylan laughed as David rolled his eyes. "I wasn't going to buy or rent a brand-new tux, okay?"
"I'm just saying."
"I already heard that okay?"
I looked at Lolita, "You?"
"It was actually the first words out of my mouth," she nodded.
David asked, "Is everyone done laughing at me now?"
I hugged him, "Love you! I'm going to dance now."
"Yeah, yeah, behave."
"Can't do that," I said as I pulled Dylan back to where our friends stood.
"Wait," Dylan stopped us on the dance floor.
"What?"
"Dance with me first." I smiled and put my arms around him. "Is this how you imagined it would be?" he asked me.
"It's better," I smiled. "I have my friends here, I have my family here, and we won class couple. This year is going to end very well."
"It is," he agreed, "I can't believe it's our last night in high school."
"I can't either. The time went by so fast. It seems like yesterday I was entering high school."
"I know what you mean. It seems like yesterday I was friends with Zane."
"Do you think everyone goes through things like this in high school? Do you think everybody feels like they're completely different people by senior year than they were as freshmen?" I asked.
"Yes, I do. You can't expect to be the same person four years later. Although, one thing didn't change for me."
"Whats that?" I asked, clueless.
He smiled, "I still love you."
"I love you too," I smiled back.
"Alright," one of the activities committee members stepped on stage, "It's time to announce the prom king and queen. To announce it for us is Lolita Scarlett and David Stanley!"
Lolita and David took the stage and Lolita held the envelope. "Thanks for having us!" Lolita told everyone.
"Before letting my fiancé begin performing," David said, "it is our pleasure to announce this year's prom king and queen."
Lolita opened the envelope and showed it to David. A large smile spread across his face as they both yelled, "Prom king and queen is Dylan Montgomery and Kayla Dane!"
"What?!" I looked over at Dylan and laughed.
He took my hand, "Come on!"
He pulled me on stage and Lolita helped me with my sash and tiara. She hugged me, "You are the most beautiful prom queen."
"Thanks Lolita," I laughed, "but I can't believe I even won."
"Well duh," she laughed with me, "You and Dylan are the cutest couple at this school, ever."
Dylan took my hand, "I think it's time for our dance."
"I think it is," I agreed.
Lolita took over the singing while Dylan and I had our first dance as king and queen. Is this really happening? I saw my friends standing around us smiling and my brother was off stage looking over at me too. If I had to pick a last day of high school I wouldn't change a single thing about this. It's already too perfect for words. As the song ended Dylan leaned in and kissed me.
"This is perfect," I told him. "Tonight couldn't get any better."
"I'm glad you're having fun. Let's go dance with our friends now."
"Okay," I nodded.
We joined our friends in the crowd as Lolita started another song. I even pulled David over to join us so he would not just stand around the entire night. We danced around for hours until the prom ended before going back to my house and reminiscing as our last few hours in high school ended.
