Chapter 51

You taught me love would be easy.
Kissing me outside my window.
We don't have to try.
Just dancing around my kitchen.
You taught me love would be easy,
Oh,
Kissing me outside my window.
We don't have to try,
Yeah, you taught me to love you.

"That was amazing!" the interviewer hugged me. "Your voice was made for country music."

I chuckled, "Thank you. The song means a lot to me."

"And it's available now!"

"It is!" I smiled. "The song came out today."

"Tell me a little bit about the meaning behind this song. What made you write it?"

"I was in a good place when I wrote this song. Family, friends, and a boyfriend; everything was great. The song is about that connection you make with someone when you meet. It's not about falling in love it's about that feeling after you've already fallen in love. You never want it to go away."

"I'm guessing this is about the boyfriend?"

"Yes," I smiled, "It is."

"He's very lucky."

"I'm the lucky one," I replied, "I really am. He's there for me no matter what. I don't know what I would do without him."

"I'm sure a lot of people are going to love the song. It's already number two on iTunes!"

"Really?!"

"Yes!"

"That's amazing! Thank you so much!"

"I have one more question... what happened? Your face is all bruised up, as much as I'm sure your make-up is trying to hide it, they're clearly there."

I sighed, "I know my face looks bad, but believe it or not the make-up is covering at least 90 percent of the bruises and cuts that are there."

"What happened? Are you okay?"

I nodded, "I'm okay now. To be completely honest here, I was cornered in an alley and beaten up by a couple guys I know from school. I stupidly went on a walk alone and they found me. Luckily I made it home after a while and got to the hospital."

"Wow... I don't even know what to say. How could someone do something so terrible to such an inspiring person like you?"

I smiled, "Thank you, but there will always be people in the world who don't believe what I believe in. It's not the first time I've dealt with bullies or people trying to push me around because they think I'm wrong or they think I'm a loser. The people who do things like this to me think I'm that same quiet girl who lets others bully her, but I'm not that person anymore. I don't tolerate bullying."

"Good for you."

I nodded, "I plan on continuing to stand up for myself and for others because I think it's important to be a role model and prove to others out there that they need to stand up for themselves. Don't let bullies push you around or hurt you in any way. Always stand up for what you think is the right thing. I may have bruises and cuts all over my face, but they didn't win. I'm not hurt emotionally and I'm not going to let them bring bullying back into my life or my school. I hope they know that."

"Your school is pretty well known for its no bullying policy. In fact, you have what the students call a 'Danes Over Bullying' movement happening at your school. What is this about?"

"It's about a group of friends who have all been bullied coming together to stop bullying and bring people together. Because of the amazing staff and students at the school we are able to hold weekly activities promoting everyone to make new friends and to have a good time. It's about being ourselves and taking risks with new people. I think it's definitely helped our school. It's brought a lot of us together because we don't see groups or cliques in the hallway gossiping or talking about other people. We're all friendly towards each other and I think that's important in an environment like that."
