The movie was rather refreshing- like a stroll down memory lane. It was nice to sit in a hard seat again and stuff your face with popcorn in the dark. It was nice to not know what was coming next and to laugh so hard you were red. It was nice to be a kid again.
But leaving the movie theater was a hard realization that that was just a snippet of what I no longer had.
I heard a few squeals and suddenly a pack of three or four girls ran over. Clique members.
I admit, if I had my favorite artist right there I'd be incredibly happy, but since it was a relax day it was a let down. The girls bounce on their feet, some covering their mouths and some pulling out their phones for pictures.
"Can we have a picture?" A girl with bright blue eyes and wavy brown hair asked.
Tyler smiled at them, looking back at me and winking. Did he just wink at me?
I stared at the back of his head, even when he bent over laughing and when he bobbed it around while talking. Did he really just wink at me?
"Well, I think I ought to be on my way." Tyler informed them, "Hope to see you at my concert." Tyler began walking away and I quickly followed.
"What was that all about?" I demanded, tugging at his sleeve.
"I was interacting with the clique." He said in a matter-of-fact tone.
"Not that." I tell him, rolling my eyes.
"Then what?" He asks with a smirk.
Really? He's going to try and make me say it?
I think for a second, turning over strategies in my head. I wasn't going down, not like this. I internally smirk, turning and meeting eyes with him."Oh, nothing." I reply, turning just as his face dropped.
Tyler obviously didn't want to sound desperate or prying, so he kept his mouth shut.
"How were the fans?" I ask, looking up to him.
"Good. How was the view of the back of my head?" He questions, "I can feel your laser eyes." He tells me, pointing two fingers at his eyes then at mine.
"Fine, but I think you have lice." I inform him, circling his head with my pointer finger.
"I'll make sure to tell my hair stylist."
"You mean your mom?" I clarify. He nods happily, a grin spreading. We burst out in laughter, attracting many looks.
"What-" I say, giggling in between words, "what should we do now?""Want to go and grab some food?"
"McFlurrys!" I screech, jumping up and down. I run to the car and in the distance I could hear him say 'Good enough.'
I climb in the car, not even thinking of how McDonalds was the destination me and my father were going for.
Tyler got in the car, settling in before turning on the car radio. I closed my eyes, silently replaying memories. Maybe if I focused hard enough, I could lose all those real nightmares and keep the daydreams.
Suddenly, a familiar song pumped through the rental car's speakers. "Sometimes you gotta bleed to kno-" the song began, cut off by Tyler's hand violently twisting the knob.
I open my eyes, "Hey, turn that back up!" I lean over, twisting the knob so the sound was louder. I looked at him, grinning.
"The songs on the radio are okay..." I say normally. He rolls his eyes, shaking his head for what comes next. "But my taste in music is your FACE!" I scream, leaning over to him.
"Someone is a bit hyper today." He says, chuckling.
"C'mon! Sing with me!" I plead, shaking his arm that rests on the console. "She's the tear in my heart!" I sing, destroying his love song. He shakes his head no, and I suddenly know why. "Who is this song about?" I ask, turning down the volume. He shakes his head again, focusing on the road. "Tell me, please?"
"Amazing how fast those sails turned, huh?" He says, smiling weakly. "It was just a thing. I thought we were perfect and wrote it while we were together. It was too late to take it off the album once we broke up." He informed me, shrugging.
"Who?" I insist.
"That," He tells me, pointing a long bony finger at me, "is classified information."
