Haze
Hazel sat on her bed mournfully.
According to Leo, they would arrive in Crete tommorow. Piper would go to fight acient Greek Jason.
Everyone else would look for Nico.
Hazel switched off her small portable TV that was in each cabin. Supernatural was an awesome show, as Piper had told her, but Hazel was restless.
She slipped on shoes and crept onto the deck. She stood at the edge of the railing and took in the sweet salty sea air. It reminded her of Percy.
Percy Jackson will never be standing next to you again, Hazel Levesque.
Hazel whirled around. No one was around, but a small tinkling of music was coming from mid-ship.
Oh well, why not check it out? Better then hearing this stupid voice in her head all night.
She tiptoed to the small glass-walled room that was half in the ship, half out of it. Leo could steer from here, or the wheel at the front.
Hazel looked in side and almost died of laughter.
Leo Valdez, the mighty fire user of the seven of prophecy, was dancing into a hairbrush. To Demi Lavato.
Or, it sounded like that. Piper, Frank and Leo had tried to inderdouce her to new things lately, but they didn't always stick.
"I'm a firestarter!" Leo sang into the hairbrush. The music seemed to be the male version of Firestarter.
"I'm a sweet disaster! I melt hearts like waaaaaaater!"
Hazel rolled her eyes at the part.
She was planning on bursting in and singing along for awhile, when the vine wrapped around her ankle.
Hazel tried to shake it off, but it started pulling her.
To the edge of the boat!
"Leo!!!" Hazel cried. "Leo! Frank! Jason, Piper, anybody!!"
Leo couldn't seem to hear over his music.
"I'm a firestarter! I melt hearts like water!"
Hazel was tugged along until she was pulling on the railing.
"LEO VALDEZ!" Hazel screamed, loud like a banshee. Leo was immedently on edge and jumped up. He looked around and seemed to see Hazel. With the music still on, he ran to her aid. He pulled on her arms, but he wasn't strong enough, nor was Hazel.
"I'll get someone! Don't move!" Leo dashed down the stairs, taking them two at a time.
"Like I have a choice?!" The vine pulled harder around her leg, curling and making it's way up her torso. Hazel squeezed her eyes shut. When I open my eyes, eveything will be okay. I'll be in my room, watching TV with Piper.
When Hazel opened her eyes, she saw something better.
"Frank!" Hazel sighed relievedly. He grabbed her arms and pulled her. Leo pulled him so he wouldn't fall. Hazel's stomach was pass the railing, but Frank was obviously not going to get her all the way up. The vines were curling around her thoat, making their way to her mouth, choking her.
Her frizzy hair was getting in her face. She was sweating like crazy.
Every bone in he body told he she was going to die.
"Leo!" Hazel croaked.
He looked past Frank and locked eyes with her. His brown eyes were a mix of fear, worry and hope. And something else.
Guilt?
Yes, daughter of Pluto. I thought you had noticed? Leo Valdez blames himself for anything and everything that comes his way. Including, yes, this. So make him un-responsible.
Make him not care about you.
The voice. It was Gaea, defiantly. But she had a point.
Make him not care about you.
Hazel knew what she needed to do.
She and Leo had been hanging out a lot more lately. She felt closer to him. And she was drifting farther away from Frank.
If Hazel was about to die again, for the third time, she was going to die with Leo safe.
Hazel made sure Leo was still watching, as she leaned into Frank. Their lips touched.
The kiss was long and meaningful, which made her feel worse.
Hazel slipped from Frank's arms just as the vines went over her face.
As Hazel fell to the water, the only thng comforting her was the fact that Leo didn't care about her.
Weird thing to be comforted about, Hazel thought as she blacked out.
