on to the tale of despair

Percy

PERCY HAD ALMOST GIVEN UP HOPE WHEN HE HEARD ANNABETH COUGH

His head immdently snapped up and he turned from where he was curled up on the floor.....crying.

Bianca and William, who had been having a small debate on whether they should give Percy time to mourn or if it'd be safest to get him out of there, also seemed to hear it, because they looked too.

Her thunderstorm gray eyes creaked open, crusty, but more beautiful then they'd ever been before.

He ran to her then, just like he had almost a year ago when she'd been stabbed on the Williamsburg bridge by Ethan Nakamura.

"Annabeth!" He almost sobbed, pulling her into his tight grasp.

She tried to croak something out, but was interuppted by a fit of coughing. Percy backed up, wondering if his hug had caused that.

"Annabeth Chase, daughter of Athena." William said curiously. "You're alive."

"I-" She gasped for breath. "Guess so." She didn't bother ask anyone about the british skeleton dude, and instead focused her eyes on Percy. "Percy-"

"You.....you were dead." Bianca protested. "I checked your pulse."

"What can I say?" Annabeth smiled weakly. "I'm a fighter."

Percy laughed, tears squeezing out of his eyes from happiness. And exhaustion. But mostly happiness.

"We ought to be off 'hen." Said William, pulling out a pocketwatch from his molded shirt front and checking it. "It's almost eleven."

Though it might seem odd, the time spoke volumes to Percy, and he suspected Bianca and Annabeth felt the same. They'd been in Tartarus for two weeks, just about, and all they knew was that there were two weeks until Gaea rose. So knowing what time it was for once....it seemed important.

"Well where are we going? I don't know how to break out of here," Bianca admitted. "William, can you-"

"Wait," Percy interupted suddenly, his face draining of color. "What's the date?"

"Um...." Bianca scrunched up her face. "The sixteenth, I think. I've been keeping a checkmark per day on my hand with a piece of chalk rock."

Percy's throat tightened. It had been three days since he'd made a deal with Gaea.

She'd be coming any second.

"Perc-" Annabeth hacked and Percy subconsiously surged forward to protect her, but caught himself. She'd been tortured. So obviously she'd be coughing up some blood.

"Perce, get her unchained. I'll make sure no guards are coming." Bianca said, and whirled around to face William. "Thank you. You've done Hades' daughter a great service. I'll make sure you are rewarded."

William bowed his head. "Thank you, Lady Di Angelo."

Bianca blushed before waving her hand.

William disinigrated into a pile of bones.

Bianca drew a knife from her belt. With a start, Percy realized it was Silena's dagger, the one he'd had holstered. Mentally, he cursed himself for being so slow to remember- The Hunters of Artemis had superhuman abilities. She was totally capable of taking a dagger from Percy. Bianca dashed out of the white room.

Drawing Riptide from it's sheath, Percy cut the chains in two quick strikes. Annabeth fell to the ground and Percy gasped before helping her stand. She was leaning on him heavily.

"Now come on, let's get out of here, Wise girl." The son of Poseidon kissed Annabeth on the forehead and made for the door. Before they could even take a step, the air shimmered in front of them.

A girl with long brown hair, glowing green eyes, and a long green dress was standing there, in a golden chariot with no horsed pulling it. Beside her was Bianca, gagged with her hands tied.

"Gaea," Percy breathed.

"Perseus." Gaea smiled at him. "Time to go."
