Piper
Piper hated life.
At least, she did during Leo's funeral.
His shroud was plain white, which Leo was probably disgusted at, due to the fact he most likely expected flame designs.
Piper stood next to Jason, squeezing his hand fo support as Leo burned away.
Of course, the thing nagging at everyone's minds was- He's immune to fire. He won't burn. But the fates must have been helping out, because within seconds Piper's best friend was gone.
Coach Hedge took to steering immdently, as he and Nico were taking turn for today, as their captain wasnt able to anymore.
Frank's face was flushed as he ran down the stairs, and Piper figured he didn;t want anyone to know he was crying over the son of Hephaestus's death.
Nico went to his room, (aka, Percy's room). Piper suspected he was going to Iris Message Hazel, but Piper didn;t feel like stopping him. She didn't feel like doing anything.
Jason leaned against the railing, sniffling. "You okay PIpes?"
Pipes. The nickname Leo had given her.
"Mmh- Yeah." She lied, convincingly.
"I hate to bring this up, really, but....when are we taing you to Crete?"
Piper swallowed. She didn't want to do anything, her instinct was to lie. But it was true, they needed her to defeat acient Greek Jason if they wanted to defeat the giants.
"Soon," She assured him. "I just want to, ah mourn L-" She couldn't even get his name out! "Mourn him, a little."
Jason nodded and looked out at the sea.
The sea was not very calm today. As they flew over, the sea swashed back and forth in it's holds, spraying water onto the side of the Argo II.
It was almost if Percy was angry, which was very probable, but since he was downstairs, in a figurtive stance, it wasn't possible that this was his doing. Most likely Hephaestus was upset, and Poseidon made the sea unruly to please him into happiness.
Though how that could make a god happy was a mysetry to Piper.
She leaned against Jason's strong chest, trying to get warm. Despite it being two weeks into July, she was freezing.
Two weeks.
Two weeks into July.
That snapped her out of her stuptor. Had it really been two weeks? Since Percy and Annabeth fell into Tartarus? Since Jason's birthday? Since two giants had been killed?
She wondered.
It also meant they had two or three weeks to stop Gaea and save the world. The Seven had to-
The Seven.
They weren't seven anymore. Percy and Annabeth might still be alive, but even if they make it out of Tartarus, one of them will have to stay. And then there was Leo. He wasn't coming back either. The five didn't sound right to Piper.
Then she realized why.
Even though Leo was dead, he would still be a part of them. When the final battle came, Piper suspected someone would yell "For Leo!" and they would fight in his memory.
If Percy was the one to stay in Tartarus, he would be mourned all over, especially by a certain daughter of Athena, who Piper though might go crazy. Once both camps found out, they both would be upset, Camp Half more then CJ, obviously. His mom and dad would sob when Annabeth came over to tell them. He wouldn't have a shroud burning. He would have a funeral that was extremely honorable, for the boy who faced the odds, beat them all the time, but eventually, had fate catch up to him.
If Annabeth stayed, Percy would be inconsolable. He'd go crazy without his "Wise Girl". He'd have countless nightmares revisiting her death. Her family would cry, and probably allow the camp to burn her shroud, as Annabeth would have wanted to stick to camp tradition.
Whatever path fate took, whatever choices Percy and Annabeth made in Tartarus, whatever battles happened in Greece, they were a family.
And according to one of Piper's favorite kiddie shows, Family means no one gets left behind.
"Piper?"
Piper blinked. "Huh?"
Jason forced a smile. "I said, we're almost to Crete. Coach said we're parking it for the night. Catch a few Zs."
Now, Jason didn't usually use the term, "Catching a few Zs." Leo did when he was refering to nighttime, but Jason never did.
Whether it waspurposely or not, Jason had acted like Leo.
Piper nodded. "See ya in the morning." And walked down the steps without Jason.
As she flopped on her bed, she knew she would always hate life after this day, no matter what.
