Chapter 9

Today is Saturday. I groaned and rolled over. Today is going to be boring. I can't even go over to Marvel's house. I smiled as I remembered Kristina. I checked my phone and saw I had a new text message. Hey, Selena! Want to come over today? ~Kristina I laughed and answered her immediately. Sure. What time? ~Selena I rolled over and got out of my bed, stretching.

I walked over to the bathroom and brushed my teeth. I took a quick shower and jumped out. I got on a T-shirt and jeans shorts and brushed my hair. I heard a beeping noise. At first I thought it was my watch, but then I remembered that is was in my closet. It was my phone. Come over at like twelve or something. ~Kristina I smiled and asked where she lived. She told me and I replied: Okay. See you then! ~Selena

I walked downstaris leisurely and grabbed a box of cereal. It was Cinnamon Toast Crunch. My favorite kind. I poured myself a bowl and sat there, brooding. My dad walked down in his underwear. I looked away and said, "Oh, ew! Dad! get some pants on! Gross!" He made a yawning noise and said, "Oh, I thought I was wearing some. Sorry." I sighed and turned back to my cereal.

Mom walked downstaris and got out her Trix. "Mom, I'm going to Kristina's house today, like at twelve," I said. "Okay, honey, but don't you think you might have to work today?" she asked. I laughed bitterly. "I'm done working. I was fired," I said. She looked concerned. "What happened?" she asked. "Why don't you watch the news today? You'll most likely see it there," I said. "I'm sorry, Mom, but I have to go. I'll see you later. Love ya! Bye." She murmered a goodbye as I closed to door to the crinkling of cereal hitting the bowl.

I got to Kristina's house and rang the doorbell. A middle-aged woman answered it; probably her mom. She had deep brown eyes, chestnut hair, and smelled like cookies. "Hi, Mrs. Vense," I said. "I'm-" She smiled and interrupted me. "Selena. I've heard so much about you!" I smiled. She half turned around, screaming up the steps, "Kris! Selena's here!" Selena came bounding down the steps and, when she saw me, she screamed, "Selena! You're here!"

I laughed and said, "In the flesh." She squealed and jumped in my arms. "Ok, ok," she said, leading me to her room. "First we're going to eat cookies, then wer'e going to the movies- hey that rhymed!- anyway, then we're going to stalk hot guys at the mall, and then- hey, why don't you sleep over?" I stared at her. "Um, I'll have to call my mom and see if she says it's okay," I said. She clapped her hands, making me jump. "Okay, you can use my phone, if you want," she said, holding her phone out to me.

I took it with a nervous laugh. I have never slept over at anyone's house before. I dialed Mom's number and she picked up on the second ring. "Hello? Whi is this?" she asked. "Mom, it's me," I said. She sighed in relief. "Oh, well, what do you need, sweetie?" she asked. I took a deep breath. "Mom can I sleep over Kristina's house?" I glanced at Kristina and noticed her eyes were closed and she was jumping up and down slightly, saying, "Please say yes, please say yes, please say yes." Over and over again.

Mom sighed. "Okay, honey," she said. "Want me to pack a bag for you?" she asked. "Yes, mom, fine, fine," I said, mentally jumping up and down, screaming "Yessssss!" "Okay, honey, want me to drop it off, or will you come and pick it up?" she asked. I scratched the back of my neck. "Um, I'll come and pick it up soon, like in an hour. Have it ready by then?" I said. "Yes, I'll have it ready, see you then, sweetie," she said and hung up.

"Well?" Kristina said. "What did she say?" I decided to make her think she said no. I put on my pout and said, "She said no." Kristina's whole face fell and she ran to her bed. She burst out crying and I laughed. "Kris, I'm kidding! She said yes!" I said. She picked her face up from the pillows and screamed. "Yes!" she said. "Woohoo!" I smiled and said, "So I have to pick my bag up when we go to the movies." She nodded vigorously and said, "Okay!"

We walked downstaris to eat cookies and I stopped short when I saw who was sitting in the kitchen. I turned to Kristina as he turned to another boy in the room. "What is he doing here?" I asked, as he asked, "What is she doing here?"
