Chapter 10
Dustin was looking at me in distaste, chewing on a cookie. I looked at Kristina, back to Dustin, then Kristina. I pointed at him, my eyes questioning. "What is he doing here?" I asked again. She shrugged. "My brother and him are apparently best friends now," she said. "don't get mad, I didn't know you hated him." I shrugged. "I don't exactly hate him," I said quietly. I looked back over at him. He sneered. Then I looked up at her brother. "Hi!" I said. "I'm Selena."
He nodded. "I'm Kasper," he said. "Kristina's older brother." Kristina smacked both the boys on the arm before grabbing the plate of cookies and bolting up the steps, shouting a, "C'mon!" to me. I looked back at the boys and shrugged. I ran after her and giggled. It was like I was floating. I looked down. Oh, man. I was floating! I quickly made myself fall, before looking behind me. Dustin stood there, looking like he saw a ghost.
"Did you just float?" he asked. I looked at him, confused. "Huh?" I said. "Are you going crazy? How would I float?" He looked at me skeptically. "I swear you were just floating," he muttered. I looked at him like he was insane before bolting up the steps. I ran into Kristina's room before closing the door behind me and laying against it. I closed my eyes, sliding to the floor. "Whoa, girl. What's the matter with you?" Kristina asked.
I opened my eyes and stood up. "Uh, nothing," I said. She wasn't buying it. "Do you like Dustin or something?" she asked, giving me a knowing look. I looked up at her. "No!" I said quickly. She smirked. "Let's play matchmaker," she said slyly. I gulped nervously. "Um, I thought we were oing to the movies?" I said weakly. She shrugged. "We are downstaris. With the boys," she said. "After we go get your stuff."

After driving home to get my things, saying a quick 'hello' to mom, we drove back to her house. I sighed. "Now what?" I asked after we put my bag in her room. "Now we go outside and hang out for a while. Then we watch a move. When it's dark," she said. I rolled my eyes nervously. What did she have planned?
She led me outside. She had a mini garden and I sat down in the green grass. Kristina did the same. We laid back and stared at the clouds. "Hey, look," she said, pointing up. "It looks like Jamie." I glanced up sharply. It did look a little like me, I'll have to admit. "Yeah, but you'll never see her again," I said sadly. She looked over at me. "You knew her?" she asked. I am her. "Yeah, she visited me a couple times," I said.
I heard someone snort. I sat up and looked behind me. As I predicted, Dustin and Kasper were standing there. "Why would Jamie talk to someone like you?" he sneered. I blushed. Kristina was fuming. "Stop that!" she said. "Selena's really nice and pretty! I have no idea why you hate her so much, but you better knock it off!" He glanced at her before making a face. Kasper slapped him. "Dude, that's my sister!" he said distastefully.
Dustin glared at him before turning his attention to me. "You're a little freak and no one likes you!" he said. I looked at him, my eyes welling with tears. "Don't you think I know?" I screamed. "Do you think I want to be avoided? Be called Mary? I want friends! I want a boyfriend! I want to be normal, too!" He just looked at me. He didn't even glare.
I glared at him, hot tears spilling down my cheeks. "I don't even know what I did to deserve this!" I said. "I know I look normal. I'd even go far as to say I'm pretty average looking. I'm not a nerd. Why do you hate me?" I stared at him. He didn't answer. I nodded my head. "Mhmm. No answer. There's no reason whatsoever," I said.
Kristina put a comforting hand on my shoulder and I smiled at her.I looked at Kasper. "Do you hate me, too?" I asked him. He looked startled. "What?" he squaked. "No way!" I smiled. "Thank you," I said. He smiled, a smile that made my insides tingle. Then I noticed how cute he was. He had blonde hair, like Kristina, and sparkling blue eyes. We noticed we were staring at each other at about the same time.
I cleared my throat and looked down. "What was that?" Dustin asked angrily. Kasper slapped him. "Lay off," he snapped. Dustin glared at him before spitting in my general direction. Kasper slapped him again. "Jeezus!" he said. "If I didn't know better, I would say you are starting to like her!" Kasper laughed, but it was forced. Dustin flipped me the bird and I sank to the grass. "It's going to be fine," Kristina said. "We'll get him back."
