Chapter 13
I never fell asleep last night. Fire Shooter's proposition kept invading my thoughts. "Consider being a villan.." Really, could it be any worse then what I have now. I mean, people just ran me out of town for no reason. I really should be a villan, I thought. What could the harm be? They don't want me to help, so.. Then Kristina started to move. "Kristina?" I asked quietly. She moaned and rolled over. "Huh?" she mumbled. "What, Selena?"
"Are you up?" I asked. She groaned. "Now I am," she said. "How long have you been up?" I stared at her. "I never went to sleep," I said. Her eyes widened, some sleep falling away. "Oh, I'm so, so sorry. Is it because you had to sleep on the floor? Oh, no. I'm so sorry," she rambled. I held up my hands. "no, no nothing like that," I said. "I just had too much on my mind." She sighed. Then her face brightened. "Wanna wake the boys up?" she asked.
"Sure," I said. "How, though?" She got a michevious glint to her eyes. "Follow me," she said, jumping up from her bed. I smiled. "Shh!" We crept along the walls, making sure not to make a noise. Kristina peered into their room to make sure they were still in there, and they were. We crept down to the basement and Kristina said, "I have scary masks around here somewhere. Oh.. here they are!" She handed me a mask that looked like Freddy Krueger. Hers looked like the clown from It.
I shivered just looking at her. I mean, there were teeth and everything. "What are you scared?" Kristina taunted. "Well-" I said. She laughed. "C'mon," she said. We crept back upstairs and snuck in the boys' room. They were still snoring. I pointed to Dustin, saying she would get him. I would get Kasper. We went right in their faces and I looked at Kristina. I nodded. We poked them in the arm and Kasper opened his eyes slowly.
"Ahhh!" he screamed, jumping off the bed. I heard another, even more shrill scream from Dustin and he dove under the bed. Kasper was in the corneer with his hands over his head. Me and Kristina looked at each other and burst out laughing. My stomach started to cramp up and I doubled over, tears streaming down my face. Kristina was on the floor, crying. I fell over on the bed and started to roll. I couldn't breathe right, so I took off the mask.
After about five minutes, we stopped laughing and wiped our tears away. We met the glares of the boys head-on. I looked over at Kristina. "That was hilarious!" I said, chuckling a bit. Kristina laughed and said, "Oh, I know. Did you see Dustin dive under the bed? And Kasper fell off, on his butt, and crawled over to the corner like an idiot." We started laughing again. "Can you two stop it?" Dustin snapped.
We closed out mouths and tried to stop. But more laughter bubbled out. I threw my head back and laughed. I noticed both boys were looking at me weirdly. "W- what?" I asked, smiling in their direction. They both diverted their eyes. "Nothing," Kasper muttered. I stopped laughing abrubtly. "I hate liars," I said. Dustin looked me in the eyes and smirked. Kasper looked away, embarrassed. "I'm going to take a shower," I announced. "I'll go make breakfast," Kristina announced. She winked and whispered, "Go in the boys' room with only a towel on. See how they react." I looked at her like she was crazy.
"Why would I do that?" I whispered back. "Pretend you don't know where the shampoo is. Hide it or something. Get all wet and go in here. Watch their faces," she said. I looked at them warily. "Okay," I said slowly. "I'll do it."
