Chapter 23
Kristina and I sat on her bed, staring at the ceiling. "Why did you do it?" she asked. I glanced at her. "Do what?" I asked. "Flip Mrs. Maddy," she said. "I mean, yeah, she slapped you, but couldn't you have just taken it and sat back down?" I sighed. "Krissy, it's done," I said. "There's nothing I can do about it." She huffed. "I just can't believe she slapped you," she said. "That's, like, child abuse." I laughed drily. "Ah, I know," I said. "She's such a b*tch." She laughed and sat up. I mimicked her. We stared at each other for a few seconds, before flipping around and putting out backs against each other's. I laughed at the absurdity of it all. "I always hated her the most. Her and Mr. Pompus had their own little scandal going on, you know," I said, smirking.
Kristina laughed. "Really?" she said. "Aren't they married?" I laughed. "Yeah, they are," I said. "I should use it as blackmail to get myself back in school." Kristina shifted into a more comfortable position. "Yeah, you sould," she said. "School's so borring without you there." I laughed again. Seems like Kristina's the only one who can cheer me up anymore, besides Fire. "Hey, did you hear about what jamie- sorry Marcie did the other day?" Kristina asked. "She totally wrecked everything in her path! It was so cool." Cool? "Oh?" I said, faking nonchalance. "I think I saw it on the news. But I'm not really a fan of hers." Kristina laid back down on the bed and I did the same.
"Why not?" she asked. "I guess I think she's just a normal girl. But with powers. She's special in her ways, we're special in our own ways. Marcie may have genetic powers, but we have our own talents," I said. Kristina glanced at me. "Wow, deep," she said, smiling. "But I still think Marcie is way cool." I smiled. "Yeah, she's cool," I said. "I think you should meet her sometime." Kristina huffed. "How can I?" she asked. "She's never displayed an interest in me." I smirked internally. "I'll put a good word about you in," I said. "I'm one of her friends, remember?"
"Oh, yeah," she said. "Would you do that? For me?" I nodded. "Yeah, I mean, you are the best friend I ever had," I said. She smiled. We were silent for a moment. Then buckets of water were being thrown on us. We screamed. My back arched off the bed at the coldness of it. Normally I would just make it go away, but I'm with other people, so that wouldn't really work out good. "What the heck?" Kristina screamed. We looked to the floor and saw Kasper and Dustin rolling around laughing their butts off.
I was shivering by now. I was kinda mad so I decided to warm myself up. I turned my fire power on a little and I felt warm immediately. I sighed, content. Kristina looked at me and her eyes widened. She laid her hand on my arm and pulled it away quickly. "S*it!" she said. "Why are you so hot?" I smiled a little. "Well, I knew I was pretty," I said. "Thank you though." Kristina smirked. "I'm way prettier," she said. "Nuh-uh!" I said. "I so am!" She shook her head. "Actually, I think I am," she said.
"Me!"
"Me!"
"Me!"
"You!"
"You!"
"See, we're even," she said. I scowled. "I'm still prettier," I mumbled. "Excuse me?" she asked. "Nothing!" I sang. I looked over at her digital clock. "I think I should get going," I said. "It's getting late." Kristina started to whine. Then the boys finally stood up. "Man, that was classic," Dustin said. Kasper slapped him in the back. "Yeah," he said. "Good thinking." Dustin smirked. "So, how's life as an outcast?" he asked. I shrugged. "Ah," I said. "I'm used to it." His smirked was replaced with a scowl. "I hate you." he said. i shrugged again. "No, you don't," I said. "I gotta go, Krissy," I said. "I'll see you later."
Feeling bold, I kissed the boys on their cheeks. I waved cheekily. "See you later, boys," I said, winking. I ran down the steps not waiting for a response. I grabbed my mask from the bushes and ran two blockes away. Then I put it on and flew back to Fire's house. He wasn't there; probably still at the HQ. I changed into my new suit. Then I noticed something on Fire's bed. It was a belt and a new mask. I picked up the note.
