Chapter 4
BEEP! BEEP! BEEP! My watch woke me up in the middle of the night. I shot up in my bed and grabbed my suit, putting it on quickly. I grabbed my mask and put it on. I opened the window and flew out. "Go to school," my earrings said. I lazily flew there and saw a couple of kids trying to set it on fire. I flew down and tapped one of the guys' shoulders.
He flipped around quickly and looked down. "Jamie?" he asked. "What are you doing here?" I shook my head, yawning. "A better question would be, why are you doing this in the middle of the night?" I said. He looked at me skeptically. "We aren't doing anything," he said. "We just saw someone go in here, like break in." I rose my eyebrows in response. "Oh, really?" I said. "Where is he, then?" He smirked and said, "Follow me."
I followed him to the back of school where we usually have gym. I sighed, walking ahead of them. "Well?" I said. "Where is he?" The boy smirked devilishly. "Now!" he screamed. I felt something pierce my arm. I screamed, loud. I looked down at it. It was a syringe, and since I felt like I was about to pass out, it was my kryptonite. I tried to fly up in the sky, but the boy said, "No, you can't. There's something in there that depletes your powers, Jamie."
I shuddered. I pressed the help button on my watch. "What do you want?" I asked. He smirked. "To know who you are," he said. "That, and to kill you." My eyes widened and I instincitevely pushed the button harder and faster. "W-well, I'm not going down with out fight," I said. I was getting weaker and weaker by the second. If Dad doesn't hurry up I might die.
"You stupid little girl," he said. "Do you know who I am?" I looked hard at him. Light salt and pepper hair, black-brown eyes, hard jaw, and- oh, no. He has a scar on the side of his neck. No, no, no, not him. Please. He smirked. "I see you recognize me now, Jamie Night," he said. "Your old pal, Bone Breaker."
I started to panic. I mean, I'm not much for panicking. A little scared, yeah. Bone Breaker hates my guts, but he's not my cup of tea, either. "You stay away from me," I said, my voice cracking. He grinned evilly at me. "Not so tough, are we, now?" he said. He took a step to me, but I didn't move. No use in showing him I was absolutely terrified.
I pressed the help button faster and harder, silently cursing Dad. Where the heck is he? He stepped closer and kicked my knee, making me fall to the floor. He shoved another syringe into me. I hissed. I pressed my watch once more, before losing all feeling. I wasn't out yet, oh no. He wanted to have his time with me.
I kicked my side, making me roll over a little. "You think you're so strong, little girl?" he asked. "Well, not until I reveal who you really are. Then no one will think you're strong." I winced. "P-please l-leave m-me a-alone," I said, barely above a whisper. He laughed, cruel and bitter. "You think I'll just back down? I've waited a long time for this," he said, leaning down to my face. "I don't think I'll just stop." He slapped me, hard, and then punched me in the stomach.
He got a knife out and toyed with it, before sticking it into my side. I groaned in pain. He pushed it in further. "Yes, little girl," he said. "Suffer. Suffer the way I did when your daddy came to help you." He jerked the knife up, cutting into my lung. I whimpered. He pulled it out slowly, smiling at my pain. "You like that, Jamie?" he asked, kicking me over, watching as my blood pooled around my brown hair. "You see, I won't kill you. No, not yet. I'll savor your pain until the very end."
I cringed. I pressed the help button on my watch when I thought he wasn't looking. He grabbed my wrist and jerked me to my feet awkwardly. He snatched the watch away. Then he threw it on the floor and smashed it with his boot. I winced. I loved that watch. "What, you think daddy will come and save you?" he asked. He gripped my wrist tightly before throwing me on the floor. He took out another syringe and pressed it into my cut.
He squeezed the liquid into me slowly, watching my reaction. I just laid there, hardly feeling it. You see, when you get enough kryptonite, you won't feel anything. That's why, when his boot connected to the back of my head, I hardly felt it. I could feel a concussion coming on, but I was way too weak to care. I looked up at the sky. I hope he doesn't keep this up for much longer. I felt a presence behind me, and it wasn't Bone Breaker.
It was mom. She was invisible. She crept up behind Bone Breaker and burst into flames, tackling him to the ground. I didn't move; I couldn't. "Hey!" Bone Breaker screamed, trying to get my burning mom off him. Dad ran to him and swung a fist in his face, breaking his nose and knocking out a few teeth. I smiled weakly. They pounded him until he couldn't move and mom called the police. She had her old super hero outfit on; it still fit. I looked over at Dad. He was staring at me with a worried look.
"Yes!" my mom screamed into the phone. "We need an ambulance and someone to take him," she said it with disgust. She hung up and sighed, running over to my side. "Mommy?" I said. A tear fell on my cheek. She examined my side and my bruises. "Did he use kryptonite?" she asked. I nodded. "How else would he whip my butt so bad?" I said weakly. She smiled a little, but it quickly faded.
I heard sirens in the distance. Maybe they were right next to me. I didn't know. "Just keep her mask on," my mom said to the paramedic. He nodded, picking me up and carrying me to a stretcher. He laid me down gently and said, "Don't worry, Jamie. We'll save you. That's what we're here for." I nodded weakly. I heard my mom screaming at the oplice to get Bone Breaker out of her face before I faded away into oblivion.

I woke up later to the sound of beeping. I tried to get up to go save the day, but it was a different kind of beeping. I looked around slowly. I was faintly aware of my mask still on my face, but my suit was nowhere to be found. I looked down at myself. I had a greenish white dress on. I cringed. I'm at the hospital? Why? Slowly, I remembered the events from the night before. Bone Breaker. He did this to me. Uncontrollable rage build up in me and I heard the beeping increase a lot.
Someone ran in saying, "Whoa, whoa, whoa. Take it easy, Miss Night." I looked at them skeptically. "Who are you?" I asked, feeling very vulnerable. He must've noticed because he said, "Hey, hey, hey. I mean no harm. I'm Doctor Peter Falon." I stared at him. "Your surgery went fabulous. You are well on to your way of recovering. Unfortunately, your- um, kryptonite isn't out of your system," he went on. "You have to stay in bed for a little while."
I must've looked horrified, because he laughed lightly. He said, "They will survive without you, Jamie. You need to rest." I sighed, closing my eyes. "You don't seem like the doctorly type," I stated, keeping my eyes closed. He chuckled. "Most people say that," he siad. "I'm more outgoing and nice then most doctors. I don't like my patients to think they have to be sad and gloomy al the time." I opened one eye and said, "Can I see my mom and dad?"
He opened the door and said, "Lily? Jack? She's awake." I smiled as I saw them rush in. They both still had their suits on, but I should've expected that. "Mommy. Daddy," I said. They both gripped me in a hard hug. "Sweetie, don't worry," mom said. "We'll always protect you. Bone Breaker is not going to seperate out family." I smiled weakly at her words.
I yawned. Mom and Dad both pulled up a chair to either side of the hospital bed and sat down. They each grabbed one of my hands and I yawned again. "Honey, get some sleep. You're probably really tired from that beating you took," dad said. I looked at him. "Are you insulting me?" I asked, amusement coloring my voice. He shook his head. "Not at all, sweet heart," he said, smirking. "You should really get some sleep. You're going to collapse of exhausten." I smiled, closing my eyes and murmered a, "Night," before slipping into a deep sleep.
