Chapter 26

3 minutes of the last period of the day and those few minutes were going by far too slowly.

Kat watched the seconds pass on the clock not even paying enough attention to know what the homework assignment was. As soon as the bell ran she was the first one out of the class basically running to her locker.

"Woah slow down." Jazlyn joked as Kat ran past her in the hall. "You don't even take the bus what's the rush?" She joked. Kat nervously sighed. Last time her and Luke has a one on one conversation alone it didn't end well and they haven't really spoken since. "Nothing, I just have a lot of homework,"Kat lied she had the smallest amount of homework. "I really just want to get home and finish it so I
Can take a nap."

"Oh wait I have something to tell you." Jazlyn started.

"Just text me, gotta go bye. Kat ran off again. She didn't know why but she was excited to see Luke.

She hurried to grab her things and made her way towards the student parking lot. She spotted Luke standing by his car, she had to admit she had seen him today but he looks better to her now for some reason. "Hey." She said walking towards the car. "Hey, ready to go?"

"Yeah." She said climbing into the car.

She watched as he started the car and backed out the parking spot. She quietly hummed to the song that was playing on the radio. "You like them?" Luke asked.
"Hm?"
"Arctic Monkeys, do you like their music."
"Certain songs, yeah." She said looking at Luke as he slightly nodded. "So, I know you didn't offer to drive me home to discuss my taste in music."

Luke looked at her for a split second before bringing his attention back to the road. "You wanna go get something to eat or something like that?"
"Um sure I guess, I have nothing better to do anyway."
The car grew silent again, besides the sounds coming from the radio. Luke pulled into In and out burger.
"Never been here before." Kat said getting out the car.
"How have you never been to in and out burger?" Luke held the door open at Kat walked into the restaurant. "I don't know, I don't even really eat fast food."
"Well it's good." Luke lead Kat to the cash register to order their food. "Two double cheeseburgers, two fries, and two vanilla shakes."
"$14.24." The lady at the cash register said. Luke handed her the money and Waited for their food.

"I'll pay you back later." Kat stated.
"No don't worry about it, my treat." Luke smiled slightly.

He took the tray full of food to a booth in the back.

"I don't know where to start. " Kat said looking at her burger. "Just bite it already." Luke laughed with his mouth half full. "Okay okay." Kat laughed as she bit into the burger. "Good?" Luke asked. Kat nodded her head yes as she bit into the burger again. "You were right you know." Luke said.
"Right about what?"
"I didn't offer to take you home just to talk about your music preference and eat burgers."
"So why did you offer then?"
Luke inhaled deeply, "You know the whole sweetheart dance thing or whatever?"
Kat could see where this was going but she couldn't see why Luke would ask her and she didn't know what to say. "Um, yeah." She said. "Well um," Luke started, "Do you want to go with me? As friends of course."
"Well um I don't know Mars kind of already asked me." She said quietly .
"Oh." Luke said messing with his French fries. "But I didn't give him an answer yet, I told him I'll think about it."
"No it's fine, I didn't want to go to that dumb ass dance anyways, Max told me to ask you so yeah."
"Oh." Kat replied quietly. "Well are you ready to go? I'm pretty sure you have homework or whatever to do."
"Yeah, I guess." She brushed the crumbs off her lap and followed behind Luke to the car.
They rode in the car music loud, bust silence between them.
