"Miss, there is a girl here. She wants to visit Maxine if that's okay with you."
The nurse politely said through the door. I wonder what it was like working in a hospital. I could imagine it being really depressing. Being surrounded my sick people, dying people, I couldn't take it is I worked in a hospital.I heard Max's mom reply from the other side of the door. My hands practically shook as I heard the cheap flowers from the gift shop near the entrance. They smelled strongly of floral scents. They must have sprayed them or something considering that normal flowers would never smell this strong. As I entered the room I saw Max's mom and all the boys, waiting for Max to get out of surgery I assumed. "Hi." I politely waved. "I brought flowers. They smell like cheap perfume." I stood awkwardly at the door.
Calum chuckled as he took the flowers and put them besides the hospital bed. "Thanks." Max's mom said hugging me. It was strongly very comforting. "How've you been Kat?" Michael asked.
"I've been better, but okay." I said rubbing the back of my neck. Michael nodded slightly in response. I looked at Luke slightly and quickly looked away. "Can we talk in the hallway?" Luke said suddenly. Confusion flashed across everyone's faces. "Um, sure I guess."
I followed behind Luke into the hallway. "Why have you been ignoring me?" He got straight to the point. "Don't know, felt like it." I didn't even make eye contact with him. "You don't just wake up one day and think oh I want to ignore my boyfriend today."
"And you don't just think oh I want to take someone's virginity and tell her I love her when I already have a girlfriend and pay my friend not to tell her but you know there's always a first for everything now isn't it?" I rolled my eyes and crossed my arms. I'm trying my best to remain calm and not cry but it was quickly going wrong.
"Listen Kat, I was going to tell you-"
"Save it Luke, I really don't care. I knew the whole relationship thing was too good to be true." I cut him off I didn't want to hear any more lies, I was sick of all the lies."Excuse me." Said a Doctor trying to get into the room. I assumed that he helped work on Max's surgery. I quickly entered the room to hear what he had to say.
"Good news, the surgery went fine. And Max is starting to wake up. She will be in shortly."
I sighed a sigh of relieve, thank goodness. The doctor exited the room.
Calum looked very happy, it was cute to me.
The nurse knocked on the door before wheeling Max in on the bed.
I cried, I don't know why I cried. Was I glad she was okay? Or was it seeing her like this all, bruised and banged up.
Max was barely awake but I saw her smile a little when she saw us. "She's one hell of a fighter I'll tell you that much." The doctor said. "Hi Max." I whispered.
"This is what happens when no one wants to listen to Max." She said. It sounded like she was in pain but she was smiling, I didn't get it."How just how?" Ashton said.
"What?" I replied.
"How did Luke turn out fine but Max got all banged up. Such a sexist world we live in."
"Ashton I don't think sexism is a good example for this. It's like physics or something." Michael said.
"The car hit he side she was sitting on. And she wasn't wearing her seatbelt." Luke said with a blank expression. The room fell silent.
"Let's just all be glad she's okay." Calum said. He was sitting in a chair besides her bed holding her hand.
