Max's pov

I watched Kat ran out the cafeteria and I felt bad for her instantly. Believe it or not, I've been there before.

"Look, I don't know what your problem is but leave Kat alone. She's a very nice girl and doesn't need you fucking with her for no reason!" I yelled at Cherish. I was probably going to regret it later but who cares, it's what she deserves. Even though I've only know Kat for a couple hours what Cherish did really made all the blood in my body boil with fury. Kat is the type of person you can't help but like, even though this is our first time meeting it already feels like we've known each other awhile. We instantly clicked.

"Max I know you want to play super hero for your little friend or whatever but don't cross that line." Cherish leaned over to whisper in my ear, " You don't want everyone knowing your secret do you?" Cherish said with full confidence and an evil smirk. I wish I could smack that smirk off her damn face.

I stood there in silence with my arms crossed and glared at cherish.

"Whatever..." I muttered under my breath.

"Great! Well I'll see you around Max , Luke....The rest of you." Cherish flashed that fake smile of hers and walked off.

With so much happening and how angry I grew by the second I almost forgot about Kat. I hurried and gathered my things and quickly texted her. She doesn't even know her way around the school yet, she couldn't have gone far.

To: Kattt :p

Kat r u ok? where r u?

I looked at my phone clearly seeing she read the text but I could tell she hesitated to text back.

From: Kattt :p

Washrooms. Idk where though.

"Calum, she's in the washroom. I'll be back."

"I'm coming with." Calum said standing up.

"No, its better if its just me. Just text her later or something. Ok?"

Calum let out a defeated sigh and nodded.

I grabbed my book bag and ran towards the closest washroom. When I opened the door I heard quiet sniffles from the last stall. I lightly knocked on the door.

"Kat let me in." I heard her shuffling in the stall

"No, I look a mess." I frowned at her protest. I just wanted to make sure she was ok. It must be tough having to deal with shit like this on your first day. Especially when you did nothing wrong.

"I don't care just let me in."

I heard nothing in response I slid down against the door and sat on the floor.
"I'm not leaving until you come out, Kat."

"Why?" She sighed out.

"Because I want to make sure you're okay."

"No, I wasn't talking about that." Now I was really confused, what is she talking about then.

" What do you mean Kat?"

"Nothing, forget it. I'll try my best to find my way to class on my own okay? I'm alright." I frowned but I understood, it's not like she could exactly trust me. We'd only met today.

"If you want to talk I'm here for you one hundred percent. You can trust me Kat, but I do understand if you don't want to talk."

It got very silent in the bathroom. I heard her sniffle once more and sigh again.

"Why is it always me? Ever since I was little I was always picked on just because I was different and liked different things? Why does it seem like everywhere I go someone hates me for just being me?" I heard Kat start to sob again. I heard the bell ring , I couldn't bother to care about being late to class. This was more important at the moment.

"No one hates you Kat. Well, at least not me. At least you have that." I immediately regret letting those words come out of my mouth. I'd always been terrible with helping people in situations like this.

"Yes they do, my mum would always try to buy newer, nicer things for me just to cover up the fact that I literally never had any friends. It's like I'm a freak or something."

" Kat you're not a freak you're ju-" I stopped when I heard the sound of the door open I looked up shocked to see Luke walk in towards where I was sitting.

"Kat open the door." completely disregarding the fact that one, we were having a conversation and two, this is the ladies washroom.

"Could you please just leave me here for a second please, I promise everything fine I just have to wait for my clothes to somewhat dry and i'll be fine."

"No, open the door now Kat." He was beet red, it's crazy how angry he is.
There was a pause of silence before Kat reluctantly opened the door. She just stood there, fresh tears coating her face, her hair and clothes soaked.
.

"Kat, don't cry over that stupid bitch. You're way better than that."

Luke's POV

I looked into Kat's watery light brown eyes and felt anger. Cherish had an unknown vendetta to all the genuinely nice people at this school. She's bitter, cold hearted and rude for the sake of nothing.

" Please don't let her get the best of you." She quietly nodded in agreement and exited the stall.

"you ok now?" Max asked.

She nodded her head yes and took a deep breath in.

"Wow Luke, you're much better at this than I am." Max said nudging my arm. I looked over and saw Kat smile. Her smile was so beautiful, dimples and all.

"Well we should be getting to class now." Max said handing me and Kat hall passes. There's perks in being best friends with the principals daughter.

"Oh!" Max exclaimed suddenly, "I never go anywhere without a change of clothes, you never know what could happen you know?" Max took a tank top and a pair of light wash jeans out her book bag and handed it to Kat. "Thank you so much." Kat smiled softly and went back into the stall.

"Should we stay here?" I mouthed to Max, I didn't want her to feel like we were invading her privacy. Plus I realized I was in the girls washroom.

"I guess?" Max mouthed back shrugging her shoulders. Kat quickly came out the stall and half smiled. No one said anything, we just all left the washroom together.

Kat gave Max and I quick hugs then hurried down the hallway to whatever class she had.

"Thanks." Max said.

"For What?" I ask not taking my eyes off Kat.

"For cheering her up, I was getting nowhere with that."

I shrugged. "It was nothing"

Max chuckled and rolled her eyes walking towards chemistry with me.

"You like her don't you?" I looked at Max knowing she was talking about Kat, I did but I couldn't tell her that she would squeal for sure.

"Who?" I asked.

"Oh you know who." she said playfully rolling her eyes.

"Who? Kat? Of course not, I just met the girl." I said quickly walking into the classroom handing the teacher my pass. My phone vibrated and I cautiously checked it. it was a text from Max.

From: Max

your not off the hook hemmings, we will talk about this later.

I looked at Max and shook my head no. I wasn't going to tell her I liked Kat besides I want to get to know her better before anything. It's weird admitting to my friends I have a crush on a girl I barely know.

Wait...What is this, Dr.Phil? I do not have a crush on a girl. I don't get crushes people get crushes on me. Crushes, and relationships, love it's all just a big con. None of it is real.

The rest of the day was a blur. It feels like some much happened but so little at the same time. Out of everything there's one thing that I couldn't seem to get off my mind.

Kat.
