Chapter 9

"Hurry up, Daniella!"

"Wait," I muttered back, applying some lip balm. Confounded bastard.

After I finished gathering my things, I walked down the stairs at a leisure pace and sent Christopher a fake smile. He simply ignored me and walked out the front door, while I just sighed and followed him towards his car.

He inserted his keys into the ignition and drove off as I gazed out the window at the night sky. It had been a week since I met Katerina; a week since I lost Noah at the amusement park. Both Christopher and I agreed not to tell anybody, mainly because I begged him and lost my dignity in the process. He agreed, albeit reluctantly.

In the end, I'm just glad that we found Noah.

"So..." I began. "This friend...are they a girl or a boy?"

Christopher glanced at me from the corner of his eyes. "Boy," he responded curtly.

I nodded in response and placed my feet on the dashboard, ignoring Christopher's death glares aimed towards me. Bravely leaning forward, I switched on the radio and began humming aloud to the song. "Ed Sheeran sucks."

"Says the guy who likes Iggy Azalea."

"What's wrong with liking Iggy Azalea?"

"What isn't wrong with liking Iggy Azalea?" I rejoined. He didn't respond, so I turned and stared out the window.

Today, Christopher had proposed we go meet his new friend, to which I reacted with a somewhat positive answer. I was still on the edge, mainly because Christopher was so against the idea of me meeting his friend. I had recently found out that his friend went by the name Mason.

Whoever this Mason was, I do hope that he was at least nicer than Christopher. I gazed down at my palms and felt my heart thump against my chest as Christopher neared a restaurant. We resolved to meet Mason — as well as Christopher's other friends — over dinner.

We reached the restaurant and I climbed out of the car with Christopher slowly trudging behind me. Being the jerk he is, he quickened his pace and approached the restaurant, opening the door and stepping inside. He didn't bother making a move in opening the door for me like how a gentleman would, but it wasn't like I was expecting him to.

"Chivalry really is dead," I muttered and then stepped inside the restaurant, gazing around in awe.

Once I retrieved from my momentary astonishment, I managed to catch Jasmine waving me over with an excited grin on her face. I grinned back as I made my way towards them and thumped down in-between Christopher and Delina. Adam and Jasmine were sitting in front of me, and I glanced around in confusion.

"Where's Mason?"

"He'll be here soon," Adam informed me and I nodded in understanding as I attempted to busy myself with the menu. "What are you going to order?" he attempted to strike conversation.

Lifting a shoulder in response, I wrinkled my nose. "Steak?" my voice lacked certitude.

Adam stared at me in antipathy. "I'm a proud vegetarian," he puffed his chest out in an overly dramatic manner and I smiled.
