Kayden stared at them all blankly, waiting to see if Jinx was going to start laughing at him again before he fully reacted. Once he was certain that they weren't kidding, he just raised his eyebrows, hoping he at least appeared to be unfazed by the question "and what exactly makes you guys qualified to be my bodyguards?" He had a vague idea, considering the small glimpse of the girls in action that he had gotten earlier, but he wanted to know more. Like, why girls who looked to be his age could do those things and how Jett was able to kill someone without any hesitation.

"That's classified," Jett answered immediately, her tone final. The look she gave him should have been warning enough that the discussion was over as she peered down at him over her crossed arms.

Kayden just narrowed his eyes "oh no, you don't get to pull that shit with me. So far today I've been extensively groped by a bald guy with exceptionally grabby hands. Had a gun held to my head and have woken up, tied to a chair, in a gym that looks like the place where Shanks go his fucking name in the first place. So I think I kind of have a right to know." Kayden ranted, glaring at Jett.

She just stared back at him coolly "that was your own fault, if you hadn't followed me—"

"Jett," Jazz interrupted, sending her a look Kayden couldn't quite decipher. "We can tell him, remember what comes with the civilian protection part of the protocol?"

Jett bit her lip, thinking the words over before sighing and nodding, "fine."

Kayden had no clue what it was but in that moment he really could kiss the civilian protection part of the protocol.

Jett went and grabbed a milk crate for herself, setting it in front of him and sitting down slightly slouched forwards with her arms resting on her thighs.

Unconsciously, Kayden moved forwards a little bit, eager to hear what she had to say.

"We go to a school with a curriculum quite different to what you're used to," Jett started, looking as if she was trying to find the right words to explain the situation to him. "Where we go, we're taught two very important things," she explained, holding up two fingers in a sort of peace sign for emphasis. "The first being survival skills for any environment and any cover," she paused and looked him dead in the eyes. Kayden felt entranced by the dark pools of nothing, her eyes were so captivating yet they seemed devoid of emotion.

"The second, is how to kill."

Kayden took a minute to take in what she had said "so, you're trying to tell me that you go to a school for assassins?" He questioned dubiously, breaking the intense eye contact, not at all looking like he believed that.

"Basically," Jett shrugged, not looking deterred by his incredulous tone. "And the guy those men at the café were working for is our next target. Thank you for interrupting that, by the way," she added sarcastically, sending him a withering look.

Kayden ignored the last part, more interested in the whole super-secret spy school vibe he was getting from her. "And what is the name of this 'school'?" he questioned, still a little unconvinced, but the more he looked at Jett's serious face, the more he wanted to believe her.

"Saint Helena's Institute for troubled teens," Jazz chimed in unenthusiastically, saying the name with a slight hint of disgust.

"Institute for troubled teens? Is that supposed to be a part of your 'cover'?" Kayden questioned

Jett gave a wry smile, her eyes flickering to where Jazz and Jinx sat, wearing similar expressions. He felt as if he were missing out on some sort of big joke. "Mostly. Though, it does keep any possible visitors away. I mean, it's not like we have people queuing at our doorstep, begging to be admitted."

"Mostly?" He echoed, a little nervously, prompting for more information.

Instead of answering him, Jett just stood up and clapped her hands, "I think it's about time you were untied and sent home. I'm sure your mother must be worried." She then looked to Jinx, "this was your idea, so you can untie him."

Jinx playfully let out a heavy sigh as she heaved herself up before breaking out into a smile. "Fine, but that's all I'm doing," she joked suggestively with a wink as Kayden felt her tugging at his ropes. He decided that, out of the three of them, he definitely liked Jinx the most. She, at least, seemed to have a sense of humour.

Though, at the mention of going home Kayden remembered why they had wanted to talk to him in the first place. "While I have you guys here, what exactly am I supposed to tell my mother? 'Hey mum, sorry I didn't come home after school today, I almost got shot and now I need to live with three hot girls so I don't end up dead'?" He questioned sceptically, unconsciously rubbing feeling back into his newly freed wrists "that's really not going to blow over well."

"We'll deal with her," Jett brushed off making Kayden a little anxious as to what exactly that meant. "Besides, it'll actually be better for her health if she's not seen anywhere near you." Jett added.

The serious look on her face and the fact that she had a very good point made his situation all the more daunting. He'd watched enough movies to know that the bad guys didn't have any boundaries when it came to the families of their enemies and he'd rather his mother not get caught up in his mess. So, instead of questioning Jett further, he just pressed his lips into a thin line and nodded.

"I'm in."
