The days leading up to the job were tense.

They sent Mark to Robert's house two more times just to solidify what they knew about the place. On the second try Mark managed to convince his father to give him a tour of the house, meaning that Jinx was able to put together a rough layout of the place. The third visit, though, was a bit of a failure in terms of gathering knowledge. Robert had insisted that Mark leave his jacket by the door.

"It's stupidly hot today. I can't imagine why you're wearing it in the first place, just leave it over there. I want you to feel comfortable here."

Considering that Mark didn't have any good reasons to refuse, he hung up the jacket and followed his father down the hallway, disappearing out of the camera's range. The turn of events had caused the girls a lot of worry. Jett had been convinced that they had been found out, that Robert knew Mark was a snitch and was about to dispose of him. Kayden insisted that there wasn't anything sinister behind the action and was instead something else Robert was doing to try and win over his son's affection. An argument exploded over the comms which was only quelled after Mark left the house looking unharmed and reassuring them that Robert didn't seem to act any different to the last two visits.

"What now?" He questioned as Jett drove him home.

Kayden was sitting silently in the passenger seat. He didn't really have any reason to be in the car with them but he'd somehow become a permanent fixture at Jett's side the past few days and so no one questioned it when he followed her to the car.

"Your job is done," Jett replied vaguely, still slightly distrustful of Mark despite his continuous help. "We'll be in touch with you after it's done."

"By 'it' you mean the murder, right?"

Kayden grimaced at the choice of words while Jett pretended not to hear it. Mark's tone was slightly accusatory and Kayden guessed that despite hating his father, he didn't necessarily want him dead. He was still family. "Yeah, that."

The rest of the drive was silent.

Back at the apartment he found himself sitting next to Jett as she scribbled some things quite intently into a tattered notebook. Over the past couple of days he seemed to be spending more time in the living room with Jett than he did anywhere else. Meaning that it practically became normal for the two of them to fall asleep together on the old cushions.

Every now and then Jett would make an annoyed sound and cross out something she had written.

"So... what are you doing?" Kayden broke the silence. He casually put his arm around Jett; the show of affection was more of a cover so that he could pull her closer and take a look at the messy scrawl.

She let him without protest. Anyone else would take that as a show of trust. It only made Kayden suspicious. Everything made sense once he saw that the words weren't in English.

He rolled his eyes, "come on, Jett," he whined, "what could it be that's so secret? Is this your diary? Are you making an entry about how much you loooove me?"

Jett snorted at that and shook her head at him, "no, I'm actually finalising the plan for tomorrow."

"Right, the allusive 'plan.'" Kayden had only heard it being mentioned vaguely or in passing and he had begun to wonder whether it actually existed. "And when do you think you'll be sharing the details of it? Hopefully some time before we kill Robert tomorrow."

"Right about now, actually," Jett replied, ignoring his sarcastic tone and instead calling out for the rest of the team to join them in the living room.
