Dedicated to the lovely Emmie-Beth who has agreed to do a new cover for this book, I'm super excited! :)

"One day, mummy and daddy were having some work related problems," Shanks began narrating, feigning innocence, "they argued endlessly over it, it really wasn't a safe environment for their young child."

Kayden watched Jett go unnaturally still, he was actually quite worried that she had stopped breathing.

"You see, mummy and daddy didn't just yell at each other, they got a little more... physical." With the word Shanks dragged the knife swiftly against Kayden's forearm.

"Shit," Kayden spat in shock as he felt the burning sensation that soon followed. Instinctively his other arm moved so he could put some pressure on the blood flow but all he got in return was the coarse rope chafing his arms while the zip ties cut off a bit of his circulation. So instead he clenched his teeth and tried to ignore the stinging pain.

"It went back and forth like that for a little while," Shanks sliced Kayden's arm a few more times, once for every word in 'back and forth.'

Kayden continued to clench his teeth so hard he thought they'd break. He was carelessly dragging the knife wherever he pleased over Kayden's exposed skin like some kind of crazed painter.

Kayden was too scared to look and see what kind of a mess his arm had become.

"Let go of him." Jett finally snapped, angrily moving to jump to her feet despite all the guns facing her direction. Though as soon as she attempted to stand, one of the men from her left kicked her in the stomach as a warning, causing her to fall back on her butt.

She spat something in angry Spanish at him. Despite it being the most inappropriate time Kayden couldn't help but notice how undeniably sexy it was to hear the language leave Jett's lips.

"That's perfect!" Shanks exclaimed, completely unperturbed by the ball of rage across from him. "See, I told you to just be yourself and the lines would come naturally. Just add a bit more of desperation in there, I mean, the whole angry snapping thing really isn't satisfying enough."

Jett had managed to right herself so that she was comfortably kneeling forwards once more.

"Just you wait, Grossweiner," she promised calmly with a twisted smile on her face, "you think you know pain? I'm going to slice—" She was struck against the face with the hilt of Max's gun with so much force that she collided with the concrete ground. The cracking sound of her head hitting the ground made Kayden grimace.

He wanted nothing more than to be free of his restraints so he could try to give her a hand. The fact that she didn't move immediately caused bile to rise up in his throat as his panicked heart beat wildly. He tried to struggle against the rope though only succeeded in rekindling the searing pain all over his left arm. He tried not to let it stop him. He couldn't bare the sight of Jett lying still on the floor as Max walked around to boot her in the stomach, just to make sure that she got the message to shut up.

As Kayden's mind tried to formulate some sort of plan he remembered watching a Youtube video of how to get out of zip ties just the other day— admittedly because he had nothing to do but homework and really wanted to gain some knowledge to be useful to Jett and the girls. So instead of thrashing around like a maniac he got to work on them as inconspicuously as possible.

Jett coughed and spat some more words out in Spanish at Max but didn't try to get up. The three men stood surrounding her, all diligently aiming their guns down at her. Thankfully, she didn't look like she was in too much pain, instead she almost looked calculating. Even down on the floor with her hair sprawled messily and her cheek swollen Jett sent him a look that guaranteed she would get them out.
