Merry Christmas?
*UNEDITED*
Here's the thing they don't show you in movies.
Bullets travel fast.
Stupidly fast.
Which meant that even though Jett was only a couple of steps away from him when the trigger was pulled she didn't get to him in time. She had barely even registered what had just happened and by the time she had turned it was too late. The distance between Kayden and Mark was too small. The speed of the bullet too great.
Though, somehow, he still ended up just out of the bullets path.
He stumbled forwards from the impact at his side. He'd been shoved, quite forcefully, by another body. As he found his footing he watched Jazz's body jerk violently as the bullet quite literally tore through her. Her eyes widened slightly as the projectile buried itself somewhere into her chest. Blood pooled almost instantaneously on both the front and back of her as she dropped to the ground, her white shirt turning a colour similar to her dyed hair.
The dull thud of her lifeless limbs kept replaying in his head as he stared at her.
His brain had trouble comprehending exactly what had happened.
It appeared that Jett wasn't the only one who had been ready to move as soon as Mark's finger was on the trigger. Jazz had also been watching him quite carefully and had noticed before Jett who Mark's real target was. Which meant that as soon as she saw Mark's finger twitch all she had to do was move Kayden to the side in one quick and sharp shove.
Though, during the movement she had placed herself in prime position for the bullet to make impact with her body.
The room was silent as the realisation of what had happened dawned on them.
Kayden looked up at Jett, though what he saw filled him with dread.
All her attention had zeroed in on Jazz. Her expression so blank that Kayden was worried that any moment she'd explode on them.
Then she was running, sprinting full force in the direction Robert had left in.
He watched her leave distractedly, he didn't feel real. Nothing felt real. It was almost like he was watching the scene from another persons body.
The door slamming behind Jett shocked him into focus.
His attention returned to Jazz. He needed to do something. Jett would have known what to do. She'd instantaneously known how to patch him up when she punched him on that first day. She must have had first aid training.
She'd know what to do.
'But she's not here. It's just you. And god you never know how to do anything.'
He clutched at his hair as the thoughts invaded his mind. They were true. That was the problem. All he did was fuck things up. If he hadn't come then Robert's plans would have crumbled. They could have left him at the apartment. They'd played right into Robert's hands.
'Kayden makes you sloppy.'
He wouldn't be able to save Jazz. She was going to die and it'd be because of him.
"I came as soon as I heart Robert say—" Jinx cut herself off with a strangled cry as she saw Jazz's body. She had fallen with half of her body sticking out of the doorway and the other half in the office.
He could hear Jinx sobbing as she tried to put pressure on the wound using her hands. The sticky mess just oozed between her fingertips the harder Jinx tried to make it stop.
