Number of times Jazz swore she'd kill Jett as soon as she showed her face again: 12
Number of times Jinx tried to lessen the tension with a really bad joke and/or pun: 29
Number of hours Kayden stared at his calculus homework while Jinx paced and Jazz drank (apple juice): 6
Time Jett actually showed up: 6:32am
Kayden had just gotten up to go to the bathroom when he heard the front door click open. He froze, his hand hovering over the door handle in front of him as his heart skipped a beat. That sound could either mean that Jett had found her way home or that someone else had found them. It was as if the world had gone into slow motion as he heard Jazz's and Jinx's bedroom doors swing open in almost unison. Jinx sported incredibly messy lopsided pigtails as she blinked sleepily in her loose pants and an incredibly oversized t-shirt. Jazz on the other hand seemed as if she hadn't gone to sleep at all, despite looking a little worn she still looked a lot more alert than jinx.
The three stared at each other as Jazz pulled out a gun from the waist band of her pyjama shorts and brought a finger to her lips. Kayden nodded solemnly as he watched her and Jinx move silently. Jinx was clutching a huge knife that hadn't been there when he looked at her a few seconds ago and he took a second to wonder where she had hidden that thing. There was no way it could have been kept on her person without her stabbing herself in her sleep... right? He followed behind, nowhere near as prepared as the other two. He didn't exactly make it a habit to sleep with dangerous things, he'd probably hurt himself in the process.
When they reached the end of the corridor Jazz stiffened and glared harshly at the intruder.
"Give me one good reason why I shouldn't shoot you," she demanded coldly, as she stood with her gun poised.
Jett just stood there in the doorway; shoulders sagged, in the same clothes she had worn last night. She looked as if she had either gotten incredibly drunk or was doing the walk of shame. He couldn't decide which was worse. At least the swelling on her face had gone down. All that remained was a huge dark bruise on her cheek.
After a few seconds of Jazz's harsh glare, Jett frowned. "Look—"
Before she could finish, a knife whizzed by her ear, sticking into the wall next to her.
Kayden turned his wide eyes to look at Jinx, who appeared equally shocked, even though she was the one who had thrown the knife in the first place.
"Sorry, I just..." She trailed off before fixing as angry a look as she could muster, "I'm just so mad at you you don't understand. How could you, I was so worried, you could have been dead." Jinx ranted her face flushing as she stood there with her hands on her hips.
"Jinx," Jett sighed, at least having the decency to look guilty at her friends' obvious distress. She ran her fingers through her hair, "I didn't mean to worry you."
"You were gone all night Jett... I thought we were over this," Jazz had lowered her gun but still looked a little annoyed.
Jett couldn't meet her gaze, though her face was pointed in Jazz's general direction her eyes looked down. "I know but he—"
"Yeah I know, Kayden told us" Jazz cut her off quietly, before she sighed and tucked her gun away.
Kayden couldn't help but raise an eyebrow at how quickly it had been resolved. He expected screaming, some insults and maybe some more knives— or at least a gunshot or two. He still hadn't gotten used to the dynamics of their relationship. Just mere hours ago Jazz was cursing Jett's very existence and then all of a sudden it's guns down and hugs all around— well, maybe not the hugging part, he couldn't imagine Jett hugging anyone but you get the point.
