Jinx had been pacing around the kitchen making phone calls all morning.

She looked beyond tired, her eyes both puffy and heavy lidded. He could see the slight smudge of dark circles forming on her skin, a stark contrast to her pale complexion. Her brows drew together and her forehead crinkled as she listened to what the person on the other line was saying. She looked so stern, so much like Jett actually, that Kayden could hardly believe what he was seeing. All traces of her typically bubbly demeanour had been wiped away leaving behind the assassin he knew she had been trained to be but often forgot she was.

That was probably what made Jinx the most dangerous of the three of them.

She was a different kind of invincible. Where Jazz had been sultry and Jett was cold, Jinx was a ray of unwavering sunshine seemingly undeterred by whatever was thrown in her direction. One look at her permanently flushed and freckled cheeks and bright blue hair and you wouldn't think she was capable of half the things she had been trained to do. If Jett attacked you a small part of you wouldn't be surprised. No matter how hard she tried to hide it, there was always something about her that screamed 'danger.'

Jinx, on the other hand, was a threat you would never see coming.

"Yes, I understand what you're saying," Jinx sighed in frustration, pinching the bridge of her nose as she took a deep breath. She had been speaking in a language unknown to him up until that moment and so the sudden switch made his hearing focus in. "But you must at least consider—"

She was cut off by whoever was on the other side.

Her eyes narrowed and with a huffed out "fine. We'll see you when we return, Sir," she hung up.

"What was that all about?" Kayden asked, not really expecting a reply but just hoping to distract her from the way she had leaned onto the table with her head in her hands.

She took in another breath before she looked up at him, painting her typical grin over the frustrated set of her features. "Oh you know, just business," she waved off lightly as she made her way over to sit with him on the offensively mustard couch.

Kayden nodded as a silence descended upon them. He wanted to ask if she had heard anything from Jett but after three days of asking he knew what her answer would be.

"She'll show up," Jinx spoke, words barely a whisper as she stared blankly ahead of her. She must have seen it on his face that he was thinking about her again. Apparently he got a really pinched expression when he worried over her.

"I know," he replied, his voice surprisingly steady. "I just need to know whether she's..." he trailed off. He was about to say 'okay' but that wasn't the right word. He knew she wouldn't be okay. Jazz was dead. But he at the very least hoped she was physically in one piece.

"Yeah," Jinx muttered, understanding what he meant. Her mouth opened to say something more when the front door clicked open.

Kayden's head immediately whipped in its direction and Jinx was up on her feet lightning fast, both of them watching the door open with hopeful eyes.

"Don't get too excited," Naziah's voice floated in as the wooden door swung open to reveal her familiar features, "it's just me."

If Kayden had thought that Jinx looked bad, Naziah was an absolute train wreck. Her eyes had become permanently bloodshot from all the crying she had been doing and there was just something so empty about her expression that made Kayden feel cold just looking at her. It didn't help that sometimes his brain convinced him that it was Jazz coming back in through the door, looking ragged but still alive.
