Death and Life

It didn't take long for Azzurri to feel right at home. In fact, she felt so at home that she bossed Stoick around at times! Toothless was the only one able to reprimand her, and she only ever listened to him or Hiccup. Hiccup had recently been able to discover a few things about Azzurri when he was giving her a good rub. She has a long claw mark scar under her front left leg. And she is 18 years old. Night Fury's are aged the same in human years, so she was just a teenager. She was good friends with Toothless, and even though Toothless wanted to be more than friends, she never gave even the slightest inclination interested in him more than a friend. And she was also keeping a secret, a big one. But she never told a soul. Toothless would sometimes spy on her to see if she ever spoke to herself, but he always came back with nothing new. Until recently.

Azzurri went for one of her walks in the forest. Sometimes she caught a rabbit, or a fish at the stream. But ever since Toothless had showed her where him and Hiccup first met at the cove, that was her favourite place. Toothless was following her today. And as usual, she went straight to the cove. He hid himself in amongst some rocks and watched her play around. First in the creek and then chasing butterfly's. She would then lie on her back and wriggle around in happiness. Usually she would do some target practice but she was to content to bother doing that today. Toothless watched with interest until some movement entering the cove caught his eye. Four tough Vikings that weren't Berkians and that were armoured with daggers, nets and swords slowly started to creep up on an unsuspecting Azzurri. Toothless panicked. He flew into the air and roared so loud that Outcast Island could have heard him! Azzurri jumped to her feet and blasted at the Vikings. Toothless landed by her side and tackled one of the men to the ground. Astrid, who happened to be doing target practice near by, heard the commotion and headed back to Berk to tell Hiccup. Azzurri was extremely angry and afraid. Her eyes were wide with fear and she would try not to have to fight. One man grabbed the net and threw it over Azzurri. She roared and clawed at the net, trying to get it off. Toothless started to glow blue and went to Azzurri's side and tried to protect her. But the men were tougher and stronger than any Vikings he had ever met and were now started to strike swords and throw daggers at him. Toothless roared for help and turned to face Azzurri.
"When I am about to blast, you must close your eyes and cover your head with your wings!" Toothless then took off into the air, as high as he could go and shot back down. His body was a brilliant blue as he sucked in a massive blast. Azzurri covered her head and closed her eyes tight shut. Toothless let the blast go.

The explosion was massive! It made the rock wall that surrounded the cove cracked and split. The men that were trying to drag Azzurri away were killed in two seconds flat, and the net was burnt too. Toothless just prayed that she was alright. He landed and ran to her side. Astrid and Hiccup arrived mounted on Stormfly. Azzurri didn't flinch, her breathing was shallow and raspy.
"Azzurri! Please answer me! Occhi Azzurri! Don't leave me." Toothless had small tears coming from his eyes and he kept nudging her and trying to wake her up. Astrid and Hiccup decided to leave Toothless to mourn over Azzurri, as she probably wouldn't make it. Toothless licked her and nudged her and called her name. But no sign of life was now appearing. He turned and walked to the creek and stared into its clear waters. She can't leave me. Not now. Not ever. He thought of all the good times they had. Why does she have to die?
"It's my fault. I shouldn't have blasted that strong. Why wasn't I thinking?!" He yelled to himself and fell to the ground. The clouds slowly moved above the dead still Night Fury's. Fish sometimes jumped out of the water, teasing Toothless. But nothing, not a thing could stop him from the sadness that overwhelmed him. Nothing could break him from Azzurri. He would stay by her side until the day he dies.
