Joshua’s POV
December 27, 2013
It’s been a day and Mariana still hasn’t woken up. When they told me what was wrong with her, I couldn’t believe it. Yet again, I somehow did.
I haven’t told anyone about it, not even Yoyo. He has been worried sick about her, at some point he had to leave her room because he couldn’t stand seeing her like that. I told him that it was just a simple stomach virus, but he didn’t buy it.
I cried all last night just thinking about it. She’s been trying so hard and she’s been making so much progress in a surprisingly small amount of time. I knew that this was going to set her back. I knew that this was going to get her to fall back into her depression and it broke me to know it.
Just two years ago I lost the person that I thought would be with me forever. She was going insane and it hurt me to know it. At some point she had done something unforgivable and I didn’t have a choice. I tried so hard to help her, but she let her mind take over. Bullet to the head and just like that she was gone.
“Sir.” The doctor gets my attention tearing me away from my thoughts. “The patient has just woken up, you can go see her in a few minutes. The nurse will escort you to her room.” He sighed and walked away. He looked tired and his eyes were bloodshot. I simply nodded.
“Can I go in too?” Yoandri asked already waking up from his nap. “I want to see her.”
The doctor turned around and said “I believe your friend should go first, he was the one who brought her in yesterday.” The doctor simply stated as he walked away once again.
Yesterday after they had delivered the news, I had begged the doctors not to tell anyone about her condition. I knew that Mariana had not told Yoyo anything about her past and I didn’t want to freak him out in the moment. I also told them not to tell Mariana, I was afraid that she would cause a scene and not beleive it.
The nurse came and told me to follow her. I’ve never been a fan of hospitals, people die here all the time.
I saw her. She looked confused yet sad. Once she saw me, she broke down into heavy sobs. I rushed to her side and hugged her, trying to comfort her.
“Joshua, they won’t tell me what’s wrong and I’m getting scared.” She lightly mumbled as tears proceeded to run down her face.
“Mari, shhh everything is fine. It’s okay.” I assured her. Everything was okay. I was just afraid of how she would react.
“You know what’s wrong with me don’t you?” She asked looking me in the eyes. “Tell me Joshua, please.” She begged.
I didn’t know how to break it to her. Just by looking at her face, my heart broke in two. She’s worse, way worse than I ever was.
“Mari,” I said building up the courage. “You’re pregnant."
