Yoandri's POV
I am known to always stick my nose where it doesn't belong, but this time I couldn't help it. I heard the strangled sobs from a mile away, and for some reason I felt like I needed to help that person.
When I finally got to the person, I realized that it was a girl. She had her back facing me, but I saw that she was in a dress and her hair was a tangled mess on her back. Without thinking I said something to her. I just didn't expect her to react the way that she did.
It was such a simple phrase, yet that simple phrase caused her to yell at me. I could hear that her voice was hoarse and slightly cracking from all the crying she had previously done. I chose to ignore her rudeness. This is what people do when they're sad and breaking apart, of course I would know.
Instead of going away like she asked me to, I stayed. I moved closer to her and wrapped my arms around her. She didn't object, instead she cried more and I let her.
She just wouldn't stop crying. She cried so much and I started to get worried I let go of her and once I did she looked up at me.
She had make up smeared all over her face. Her eyes were red and puffy from all the crying she had previously done, but even in the moonlight I could see that her eyes were brown. Her lips looked dry and chapped from the cold and her dress had patches of dirt all over it.
Mariana. That was her name. We had a short conversation in which I barely got her to speak. At some point she even seemed annoyed with me and that only added to my humor. Then she snapped at me and it caused me to stop laughing, maybe I was being a bit of a jerk to her.
She asked for my name, but I didn't tell her. It was freezing outside so I offered to walk her home. I didn't expect her to agree, but she did. The whole way to her house was silent. Mariana looked like she was deep in thought and I didn't want to interrupt her.
Suddenly she stopped walking and that's when I realized that we were outside of her house. She quietly thanked me, and I happily answered. Once I started walking away I heard her say "I'm not broken, just going through a tough time."
As I walked home in the dark, I couldn't help but think what she meant. I wanted to know this person. I wanted to know her good side and I wanted to know her bad side. I wanted to know what had caused her this enormous pain.
I walked inside my house as quietly as possible. I didn't want to wake my grandma up. She would most likely scold me for coming home late once again. I went up to my room and shut the door.
As I lay in bed I thought about the broken girl named Mariana. No matter how many times she denied it, I knew she was broken. Like I told her, I don't plan on leaving her anytime soon, Not until she was completely fine and happy.
