Chapter 25

Yoandri's POV

January 6, 2016

Working at one of the busiest restaurants in town was exhausting and stressing. There were days when I just wanted to let go of everything and just go home with Mari, but I toughed it out and made it through the day. Johann was always there with me, we always worked the same shift.

Today, I was on the way to the bakery because I knew that Mari would love a rosca de reyes. The guys were also coming over, so I had to buy a huge one.

I walked inside the small bakery that was only a few blocks away. It was warm and it smelled really good. I was starving. I hated eating food from where I worked because it got nasty after a while. Maybe it's just me because everyone seemed love it.

I walked over to the roscas. They were put in different size boxes. I immediately grabbed the biggest box and walked over to the long line. I looked at the box and started smiling like an idiot.

*Flashback*

"Johann put Joendri down! You're drunk, you're going to drop him!" Mari exclaimed as he tried to take the crying baby away, but Johann only giggled like a child.

"Johann, I'm not playing with you! Give him to me!" Mari continued to shout as they fought over the baby.

Richard was tired of their arguing so he walked over to Johann and snatched the poor child away. "There! Now neither of you will get him." He said as he walked away from both of them.

It was exactly a year ago when I had bought a small rosca for Mari as a surprise. I will never forget the way her face lit up when I walked through the door with the box in my hand.

"Johann, you're not getting any of my rosca." Mariana said as she walked in the kitchen, we all followed her there.

"I didn't want some anyways." Johann snapped.

Mariana grabbed a knife and starting breaking off a piece of the small round bread. She grabbed the first piece and took a bite of it. Then she started digging in the bread with her finger and we all looked at her in shock.

"What you doing?" Joshua asked.

"I'm looking for the baby." Mariana said as she continued to dig in the the piece of bread.

"Girl you just had one and now you want a new one. Look Yoyo, she's dropping hints." Richard taunted her. Mari only narrowed her eyes at him and picked up her knife.

"Easy there, you don't want to do that." Richard said as he started to walk away with Joendri still in his arms.

"Oh no no no! I was going to ask who wanted to go next." Mari said as she lightly laughed.

"I volunteer!" Joshua said as he grabbed the knife from her hands. He cut a piece off and started chewing on it. "Wow it's great!" he complimented the bread. "Wait, ow!"

"Bro, what's wrong?" Johann asked suddenly worried.

"I think I got the baby." Joshua answered as he pulled a white piece of plastic out of his mouth. "What now?" He asked as he turned to look at Mari.

"Since I'm Mexican and the only one who seems to know what's going on, we'll do it my way." Mariana said as she gave us a mischievous grin. "You will have to make tamales and atole on February 2nd!" She excitedly said.

I started laughing really loud and Joshua only glared at me. Richard didn't get a baby, neither did I. Johann on the other hand wasn't very amused when he found out that he had to help Joshua cook.

*End of Flashback*

"Hi is this all I can help you with today?" A voice behind the counter said. I could tell it was a guy because the voice was deep.

"Yeah, that's all." I simply replied as I took out my wallet.

"Okay, your total is $25.00." I handed the cashier dude the money and that's when I looked up.

My mouth felt dry and my eyes felt like they were going to pop out of my head. For a second I felt like I was hallucinating, so I tried to rub my eyes. It felt like I had entered some other universe because my vision felt blurry.

When I felt okay, I looked at the guy again and nothing had changed.

"Hey are you okay?" He asked.

"Perfect! Thanks have a great day." I said as I hurried out of the store a bit confused.

I knew that face. I had seen it in so many photographs before.
