"Hey, are you okay?" A raspy voice said from behind me.
It was just a simple question, but it somehow made me burst.
"NO! Does it look like I'm okay? I'm in the middle of nowhere slowly losing my mind and you still have the nerve to ask if I'm okay? Go away! Leave me alone!" I yelled at the stranger. I refused to turn around to face him.
Suddenly I felt a pair of warm arms wrap themselves around me. "I don't know who you are, but it looks like you need a hug." He said. Despite the fact that I wanted him to let me go, I didn't fight it. I had no energy to do so.
When he finally let me go, I took the time to see what he looked like. I didn't know what I was expecting, but it totally wasn't this. In the moonlight, he looked like an angel in disguise. He was light skinned, almost pale. His eyes were big and dark brown, his hair was hidden in a beanie. This stranger was the complete opposite of Joel. Maybe he was an angel ready to take me to my lost love.
"Now stranger, may I get the pleasure of knowing your name?" He asked me with a sly smile on his face. He had a perfect set of white teeth.
"Mariana" I replied. My voice was hoarse and I'm pretty sure I looked like a mess, but I could care less.
"Didn't your parents teach you not to talk to strangers?" He softly chuckled. I would've laughed too if I wasn't missing my other half.
"Why don't you ask yourself the same question? If I do recall you are the one who approached me." I slowly replied. I expected him to feel offended, but to my dismay he laughed loudly. This only annoyed me even more.
"May I know your name or are you going to keep wasting my time?" I asked. This shut him up real quick and I smiled on the inside.
"No you may not know my name for now." He replied with a frown, but it was later replaced with a smile. "I'll tell you my name next time I see you, which will be soon because I don't plan on leaving a broken girl like you. Now let me take you home because it's pretty late." He offered.
I nodded. I don't know why I was trusting this guy. I didn't know his intentions, but he seemed nice. I just hope I wasn't wrong about this. Either way it didn't matter, I had nothing to live for.
We walked in silence the whole way to my house. Before I walked inside, I quietly thanked him.
He happily nodded and said, "Don't worry about it, I'll see you soon Mari." He waved as he started walking away
Remembering what he had said earlier, I mumbled, "I'm not broken, I'm just going through a tough time." But I knew those were lies. I was broken beyond belief and there was no way of fixing me.
I walked inside the small house knowing exactly what I had to do. I looked for the small box inside my closet. I walked into the bathroom and looked at myself in the mirror. Then I looked at my shaking hands.
As I stared at the small shining pills, his voice sounded loud and clear in my head. It was as if he was there in the same room with me.
"If I go, you go with me. And if you go, I'll go with you. We'll never leave each other. We'll always be together." It was our promise.
