Joshua's POV
Mariana was still sitting there quietly. She looked confused, but she seemed to get the point of what I was trying to say. Since she wasn't saying anything, I decided to keep talking to her. Why not keep twisting the knife in her already wounded heart?
"Then it turned out you were pregnant with Ken's baby. I pushed you to Yoandri. I also encouraged him to give you a chance because you know that's what friends do." I said, my tone sounding a bit sarcastic.
"You know how shitty these years have been, no need for me to explain those. Truth is, you gave me all your trust. For fucks sake, I'm Joendri's godfather. I actually like the kid, he has common sense. Then things turned for a dramatic turn. BAM! Joel is back, just like that."
"You didn't know. You didn't know he was alive!" she accuses.
"No, I was surprised as well." I confessed. When word got around that Joel was alive, I couldn't believe it either, but I acted like it didn't phase me. After all, he was supposed to be a stranger to me.
"So what was your point then Joshua?" She asks, tears already forming in those eyes of hers.
"You see Mari, I thought Joel coming back would ruin my plans. I thought you were going to choose him, but you ended up choosing Yoandri. You still married him and even Joel decided to erase himself from the picture. Smart move, smart move. I also felt pity for Joel, with his lost memory and all. I thought he was dead. I really did. I thought I saw him die, but it doesn't matter anymore. Now it's Yoandri that's gone." I murmured into the phone.
I saw something in her eyes. I saw the confusion. "You said it wasn't me you wanted. You didn't want to kill me, why?" she asks.
I recalled what I told her at the wedding when we were passionately dancing. "My intentions were never to kill you. Do I have to got through my whole monologue once again? Mari you and I have basically lived the same life. We were once upon a time happy with someone we loved. We then lost someone we loved. We fell in love all over again, just to lose them too. Mariana Rodriguez, our lives parallel." I informed her.
"Who else did you lose?" she asked.
"You." I told her as I laughed. "Don't get too excited, you're not my type." I informed her.
"You're insane!" she yelled at me. Tears were still streaming down her face. I bet her eyes burn, from all the crying she's been doing.
"I think you realized that a little too late. The clock is still ticking." I said, as I put my hand on the window. She flinched and moved backward.
The police officer asked if she was alright, something that she responded to by nodding. I rolled my eyes, I was never going to hurt her.
"How could you?" she sobbed. Her hands were shaking, along with the phone in her hands. "Why me? Why ruin my life?" she kept saying.
"That I did do." I laughed. "Now you can't even run to Joel because he doesn't love you anymore. Yoandri is dead, forreal. Who will you run to next? Richard? Johann? Find out on the next episode of Dragon Ball Z." I coldly laughed.
"Fuck you Joshua! And to think that you were once my best friend. I hope you rot in here. I hope you regret all of this. I hope that one day, you feel the burden of all the wrong you've done-"
I decide to interrupt her, "My dear Mari, I thought you had forgiven me?" I ask her.
"I forgive you alright? Because if I don't forgive you then who will? I hope one day you find your mind and heart that you have lost because you truly need it. I know one day you will pay for all the wrong you've done. You'll pay for it and you're going to regret it!" she began sobbing and yelling. Her voice often cracking along the way.
Truth be told, I almost felt sorry for the poor girl. I decided against it though. No one ever felt sorry for me or gave me their pity. Instead I laughed as the tears streamed down her face. She hung up her phone, indicating that she was done with me.
The officer came and got me, indicating that it was now time for me to go back to my cell. Should I call it my home? As far as I know, I am going to be here for quite a while. I got up, before I walked away, I tapped on the transparent window. Mariana hesitantly looked up at me, I waved goodbye at her because I knew that it was the last time I would see her.
The tears in her eyes were like waterfalls, never stopping. Her cheeks we stained and red. Her lips were pretty dry. But underneath that whole mess, she was still Mariana, the one that I got to know.
As I was walking away, I looked back at her one last time and saw that she was on the phone. Her expression went blank and the she ran out of the door. Just like that, she was gone, never too be seen by me ever again.
