Their forbidden love (Steven Universe)

Chapter Twenty-Four

"Do you promise to protect him? To teach him to be a gem, to teach him how to use his powers?"
"I do." Three gems said in unison.
"Garnet, will you teach him how to love, how to be strong, and how to be an excellent leader?"
"We do." She said.
"Amethyst, oh Amethyst, will you teach him how to have fun, how to be sweet, and how to protect those he cares about?"
"I promise." Amethyst said.
"Pearl, will you teach him how to be smart, how to be different, and how to better himself everyday?"
"I do, Rose." Pearl nodded as she said it.
"I'm glad I have you guys as my friends. I hope you respect my wishes and teach Steven how to be like you. Thank you. Thank you crystal gems."

Their promises echoed In their heads. Garnet, who was holding Steven's hand as they walked towards Connie's house, thought of her promise. Clearly, she had taught him how to love, but was he strong enough to fight this? Was he strong enough to tell her? If he won, yes, he would not only be strong but he would have evolved into an excellent leader.

Amethyst held her arm as she followed them. Her body was weary and she just wanted to close her eyes and sleep for the rest of eternity. She was scared of Steven, no doubt he was still him but if he snapped like that again, would he be able to come back from it? Steven was incredibly sweet and he knew how to have fun thanks to her, but if he really cared about her would he really be able to protect her from it?

Pearl sat staring at the ceiling. Her blue eyes burned into the wood above her. She thought of her own promise. Steven was definitely smart, he was a quick thinker and could learn quickly. He also was very different than most earth children. And so is Connie, maybe that's why they get along so well. But with his...condition Steven would never better himself without giving more power to Aventurine. Shivers flew down her spine as she thought of her name. It must be hard for your sole purpose being to kill. Pearl was immediately infuriated with herself. Was she really giving pity to this gem? This gem had destroyed her friends who fought along side her during the war. If only she could help Steven get rid of that horrid gem. It wouldn't be able to hurt anybody anymore. At least for a while...

Steven grinned as he gleefully walked to Connie's house. But his face fell as they went over a hill that exposed the home. There were many cars parked out front. The words, "Happy Birthday Timmy!" Were on a balloon on the mailbox. Garnet furrowed her eyebrows as she looked at Steven. She gave him a questionable look which told him that she didn't understand what this occasion was.
"It's a birthday party." He answered to her expression. It softened before turning emotionless again. Steven expected Amethyst to say something at the mention of a party, but was greeted by silence. He turned around and saw her head hung low and her hair flipped over her face.
"Amethyst? Are you alright?" He said. Her head hung even lower as he spoke. Steven approached her but stopped midway as she said something.
"Don't come any closer." She said.
"W-Why? Amethyst what's wrong?" Steven turned worried and tried to step closer. She snarled a warning which made him stop. "Please Amethyst what's wrong?" He said with a plead.
"YOU ARE!" She yelled at him. Steven took a step back before Garnet stepped in.
"Amethyst. Calm down." She said calmly.
"NO! DON'T YOU SEE?! HE'S NOT HIMSELF ANYMORE! THAT MONSTER IS IN THERE AND STEVEN IS GONE! EVEN THE LION CAN TELL! THE LION KNOWS THAT'S NOT STEVEN! SHE'S STRONGER THAN ALL OF US, STEVEN ISN'T STRONG ENOUGH TO KEEP HER BACK! WHEN SHE FINALLY TAKES CONTROL WHERE ALL GOING TO BE SHATTERED!" She pulled at her own hair.
"Amethyst..." Steven said. Amethyst pulled out her whip.
"Stay back!" She warned. Garnet came to his defense and summoned her Gauntlets. "Amethyst! Look at him. That is Steven. It's not over yet." Amethyst breathed heavily. "Look at him. We will find a cure, he will be fixed, and we will still be a team." Amethyst eyes widened as she made her whip disappear. Her breath became shallow and she touched her own face.
"What am I doing?" She asked herself aloud. She looked at Steven's panicked expression and spoke. "I'm sorry- I just-I don't know what happened. I felt really hostile all of a sudden but I see now it is Steven. And we will get through this, right little man?" She said with a smile. Steven returned it as Garnet's gauntlets disappeared into her gems.
"Glad you feel better let's throw you a birthday party to celebrate. Actually let's throw you Timmy's birthday party instead." Garnet said.
"So? It's still a party. Let's get our grub on!" Amethyst yelled happily.
