Chapter Twenty-Three

Steven gripped the back of her shirt tightly as he let out a cry. He hugged her with such pain that Pearl could feel it. Steven was back. When it looked as though her little baby was just out of her reach, somehow he grabbed her and came back. She gently hushed him before remembering Greg. She smiled at him before setting him down on the ground. Steven wiped his eyes before walking out the temple door. Pearl made sure it didn't close behind him. Steven walked to Amethyst, who was lying face down on the ground. She was breathing, not asleep, but more of an unconscious sleep. Steven easily flipped her over and examined her. She wasn't hurt so he was happy about that. Steven jumped up as Amethyst let out a gasp. Her body sat up and looked around. Her eyes squinted as they landed on Steven.
"Before you say anything that was not me who did that to you..." The mixture of anger and fear in her eyes told him to back away. He obeyed them and nodded. Steven took a step back and widened his eyes, trying to show her that it was actually him. "Look it's m-" he was cut off by the door bursting open and somebody tackling him to the ground. It wasn't a painful tackle but it was enough to knock the wind right out of his lungs. He gasped for air under his opponent. "Get out of him!" His attacker yelled. He squirmed under them before his attacker stopped completely. Steven looked up to see a shocked Garnet looming over him. She quickly picked him up and hugged him. Steven hugged her back before she put him down.
"Hi." He gave a slight wave. Garnet smiled as a tear ran down her left cheek. She wiped it away and smiled.
"I'm sorry Steven, I didn't think..." She paused. "That was you. I saw a future vision of you-er- hurting Amethyst and Pearl so I came as quick as I could." Garnet told him.
"Why didn't you just use the warp pad?" Steven asked her.
"In my vision the warp pad was broken."
"But why was it broken?" Steven asked curiously.
"You broke it." Garnet said calmly.
"Steven!" He looked behind him to see his father running towards him with open arms. Steven welcomed his father's hugs and gave him as much love as he could muster. He felt a stabbing pain in the back of his head but he ignored it. It disappeared as quickly as it had appeared. Greg released his son and checked his face.
"What happened to you?" He said questionably.
"I-"
"It's okay Steven," Pearl said. "I'll tell him." She knew what he wanted to do so she smiled. "Go see her." Steven grinned and grabbed Garnet's hand. He pulled her out the house with Amethyst quietly tagging along.

"As I was saying before, Aventurine was a warrior, the best genetically engineered warriors Homeworld has ever created. And I am currently their number one target. The Crystal Heart is a powerful source of- um- power really. But it has a design flaw, all of the excess and bad power it creates has to go somewhere. There are different types of hearts: Light, Darkness, Flame, Water, we have the Viper heart. Every thousand years or so the heart will create a random Gem and will find a host to inject it into. The gem will not be incubated in the ground but a live host. Slowly, over time, the gem takes control of the host, it does all of this to there is was one cure." Pearl cleared her throat, "Rose was entrusted with the Cure secret, she took it to her gem." She sighed as she finished. Greg replied with a nod. Taking it in.
"So only Rose knows how to fix Steven?" He asked.
"Well, not only Rose. She's the only one on this planet to know." Greg put his hand on his balding head.
"Can I go home? I just need to think about some things." Greg said with his heart in his throat. Pearl nodded as he left. He turned around and left the house quickly. Pearl sighed and sat on the couch. She folded her arms over her legs and looked up at the ceiling.
"I'm sorry Rose." She said aloud.

*smug smile* hope you enjoyed that chapter! I know I didn't update Saturday, I've been on a ranch with no wifi or data for the past 5 days -.- but I uploaded the moment I got home :) I know the chapter is kind of short but it's purpose is to how you what happened after the attack.
