"Steven." Somebody said.
"Steveennn." Somebody repeated.
"Steeeeveeennnnn." She said.
"Huh?" He pulled his head up and looked forward. Connie's smile greeted him. Steven looked around, confused as to where he was. Without thinking he tried to stand and felt the familiar clunk of the bed on his head.
Connie grimaced as she heard the sound. Steven grunted and rubbed his head where he had been hit, not once, but twice. He dragged himself from under the bed and towards Connie. She giggled once he was out from underneath the bed.
"What's so funny?" Steven said in a playful tone.
"You have dust in your hair you dork." She outstretched her hand to his hair and brushed out the dust. As she brushed out the last of it, her hand became caught in his hair.
"Uhhhh." She said.
"What?" Steven asked. Connie laughed. She used her other hand to pry it out and succeeded. "What was that?" Steven asked her.
"Well...my hand got caught in your Incredibly tangled hair. What do you not brush your hair?" Connie joked. Steven blushed.
"It's not really tangled, it's just really, really, really curly. And I've tried to brush, it just always gets stuck in my hair." Steven chuckled nervously. "I guess I take after my mom, the gems say her hair was really curly and beautiful. But my dad's hair is really straight and soft. Mine is pretty soft too though so I don't know."
"Maybe you'll get both?" Connie said.
"I kind of want my mom's, so I feel close to her y'know?" Steven ran his fingers through his hair while looking at the floor. There was a long silence between them before Connie cleared her throat.
"Well...I brought you some cake." Connie squealed as she handed him the plate. Steven's eyes turned to stars once he realized he had barely eaten anything all day. He gave her a quick hug as a thank you before he scarfed down the slice of cake. Connie raised an eyebrow at him after he had finished.
"Have you not eaten all day or something?" She asked him.
"Or Something." He responded. Once he was done with the plate he set it down beside them.
"Thanks." He said to her.
"It's no problem."
"What did your mom say about you bringing your food up to your room."
"Well, it's not my food, it's yours." Steven chuckled.
"I mean, yeah, but she didn't ask any questions as to why you were coming up here with a plate of food?"
"Yes, but I just told her the truth. That I was bringing my food up to my room and was going to read a book. I didn't tell her I was bringing it for myself so technically I'm not lying." Connie said.
They laughed at the same time.
"You're right about that." Steven said.
"Oh yeah, also Amethyst ate half of the cake when nobody was looking." She added.
"WHAT?!" Steven facepalmed. "Sorry about that..." Connie giggled,
"It's okay. Garnet stopped her halfway through." She smiled. Steven stared into her eyes before leaning in and giving her a kiss. He backed away after a moment.
"What was that for?" Connie asked.
"For being you." He grinned at her and sat down in the bean bag chair. Connie smiled at him and sat next to him.
They sat and cuddled in silence for what seemed like seconds...
