Their forbidden love (Steven Universe)

Chapter Ten

"Why Rose? Why would you do this? I don't understand why would you do this?" Pearl's voice was strained.
"I have to Pearl. My time has come, it's time for something new to come onto this beautiful world. I know he will continue my legacy." Rose's soft voice filled Pearl's ears.
"But-But-" Pearl stumbled through her words helplessly.
"But nothing. He will exist and you are going to help him. I ask you, my Pearl, to love and care for him. To teach him how to use his powers. To teach him to be a Crystal Gem." Pearl sighed.
"How will I function without you? I need you."
"You don't, you are your own gem. I will not let you believe that. You can and you will function without me. I will never leave you. I will always be there. But I will be a part of Steven. If you need me then you have to need Steven." Rose folded her arms.
"I understand." Pearl sobbed. Rose opened her arms and welcomed Pearl into a hug.
"Be strong Pearl. I know you are, you're strong in the real way."
The images flashed before Pearl's eyes. She was looking down at Steven as he slept. She knew he didn't want her to, but she couldn't help herself. What if he stopped breathing suddenly? What if he spontaneously combusted in his sleep? The lion was outside, for some strange reason he kept on acting aggressive towards Steven. He never has, ever since Steven regenerated Lion has been a bit on edge. He shifted in his bed and she quickly ducked, hoping he wouldn't wake up. He mumbled something in his sleep and flipped over. She silently stood up and watched him. As she loomed over him his eyes snapped open. She jumped slightly startled that she had gotten caught. She was ready to apologize before she noticed, the eyes staring at Pearl weren't Steven's cute, little eyes. They were something more, more dark, more evil. Those eyes were a bright green color and held a glint of mischief. She was shocked at this sudden change. She stared back at them, they weren't just looking back. They were staring into her soul, she felt emotionally shaken. They darted back and forth as they looked at their surroundings.
"No." Steven muttered. "Stop." He started to toss and turn. His eyes suddenly shut and he bolted awake. He groggily looked around and noticed a very confused Pearl.
"Pearl?" He said in a raspy tone. She was staring at him, dumbfounded. The eyes were gone. And her little Steven had returned. His eyes had returned as well and he was no longer staring into her soul.
"Steven?" She said. He wrapped himself in his blanket and looked up at her. "Are-are you okay?"
"I guess so I just had a bad dream." Pearl sat down on the edge of his bed.
"What was it about?" He leaned forward and tapped her chest with his index finger. He leaned back and sighed.
"Nothing." He replied blantly.
"Steven." Pearl said his name in a stern tone.
"It's just that-I-I..." He trailed off. "Remember when you had to regenerate and it took you two whole weeks to come back?" Pearl nodded slowly. "You got impaled by um...holo-Pearl's sword. I just hated that. And it was my fault. I just...I can't forgive myself. What if you didn't come back? What if you never came back? You took so long. I thought I would never see you again. And it would be my fault." Pearl had her hand over her mouth.
"Steven, I will never leave you. I will always be by your side to protect and care for you." She opened her arms and Steven leaned into her. "Thanks for being here Pearl."
"You're welcome Steven." She felt a tear escape and roll down her cheek before it leaped off her face and into Steven's hair.
"Can you stay here for the night? You don't have to sleep you can just stay awake, I just would feel safer if you were-"
"Sure." She smiled at him before he threw himself into his pillow. She sat on the floor and said, "Goodnight Steven."
"G'night Pearl."

A/N
Very short chapter guys, I had a small epiphany and I wanted to at least put something up while I wait for the new episodes. I saw the last part where Steven blames himself for Pearls regeneration somewhere in a Steven universe fanart on tumblr. If I can find it I will post that persons name up. But I should take the book off of hold next weekend so expect a new chapter next week.
