Chapter Twenty, "...we kind of snuck in."

Greg walked through the door with a bag in his hand. It was small, white, crumpled, and had a picture of donuts on it. Amethyst turned suddenly like a deer caught in headlights. She blushed and turned back into herself. She was embarrassed he had caught her. Steven wiped a tear from under his eye and stood up. He ran towards his father and leaped up. His dad quickly dropped the bag and caught him.
"Hey buddy, how's it going?" Greg said with a smile.
"Hi dad! I'm just hanging out with Amethyst." Steven said, hugging his dad.
"Yeah I saw that..." Greg glanced at Amethyst and gave her a look she couldn't decipher. "I brought you some donuts for breakfast." Steven scratched the back of his head.
"I kind of already ate breakfast. Sorry dad." Steven replied.
"You can still fit one right? I bought more than I can handle by myself. Amethyst you can get in on this if you want." He gave her a friendly smile.
"Yeah alright." She stood up and swept the bag into her hands from the floor. She reached in and pulled out a croissant. Amethyst took a slow bite and tried to enjoy the pastry. To her own dismay, her instincts told her to swallow the damn thing. It quickly disappeared and she handed the bag back to Greg.
"So dad, what are you doing here?" Steven asked questionably.
"I just wanted to see how my awesome kid is doing." Greg said happily. "And I was also curious about how you and Connie are doing. After I dropped her off back at the tennis court she looked really sad." Greg put Steven on the floor, he looked up at his dad.
"She was? I was sad too. I missed her the moment she left. I actually went and saw her yesterday."
"Really? And the Maheswarens allowed it?" Greg said in awe. Steven laughed nervously.
"Well... they didn't really allow it. I kind of- sorry, we kind of snuck in." Steven said.
"And by we you mean...?"
"Garnet, Amethyst, and I." Greg blew air out of his nose.
"Aw man, does Pearl know?"
"No..." Greg cupped his own face with both hands. He removed them and looked down at his boy.
"Look, I know it's hard when you love somebody. You want to see them everyday. Especially in your situation, but you have to know your limits." Greg gave him the best fatherly advice he could muster.
"What do you mean?"
"I mean that if you know you can't do something and theres a big risk. You have to know if you can take that risk. When you love somebody it's hard. It's basically torture, but just know your limits okay bud?"
"Yeah dad. I get it." Steven gave him a small smile.
"Alright. I'm glad you do." Greg slid back what was left of his hair.
"Let's eat. Before I swallow that bag whole." Amethyst pointed at the bag Greg was holding. Greg raised an eyebrow and looked at Steven. Steven shrugged and motioned for them to eat. Greg and Amethyst quickly rushed to counter and almost savagely ripped open the small bag. Pieces of donuts and other pastries flew around the counter. Steven laughed at their almost animal-like way of eating.
"He will be the second to last person I kill. I'm saving your bitch for last."

Guess you weren't expecting the voice to be Greg! Anyways, short chapter today guys. I'm visiting family for thanksgiving break and I don't have time to write. I just typed this up in the car 😅 Hope you guys had an amazing Black Friday- oops. I mean er...Thanksgiving!
