My hands shake with nervousness and I pull my legs up to my chest as I sit down on the squeaky chair. I don't know what i'm about to hear. I'm not even sure if i want to hear it. Four sits across from me, too close for my liking.
"I didn't know about Myra's plans from the beginning. When I was looking through video footage, I found her talking to someone about it-"
"Who?" I interrupt with narrowed eyes. He sighs and a guilty look forms in his eyes."Robert." He softly replies. I flinch and close my eyes. Literally everybody knew but me. I never thought Robert would lie to me, I never thought four would lie to me. Yet they both did.
"That's why I disliked him so much," he continues, "I was trying to figure out how to tell you. But then Myra found me. She wanted David and Jeanine to believe everything that she set up. But she knew, that if you knew her plans, you would try to change them. She knew you wouldn't want Caleb in the middle of all of this-"
"So, you just went along with her? Just like that?" I angrily snap. His jaw clenches and I squeeze my hands together."It took a lot of thinking, but I knew it was the right thing to do. Tris, your brother is safe, and we found their hideout. We're going to catch the guy who killed your parents." He stiffly explains. I roll my eyes at his bogus excuse and stand up.
"Yet my parents aren't here." I mumble.
"There's more." He says and catches me by the waist before I can exit the office.
"What more could their possibly be?" I spat.
"They knew Tris. Your parents knew about Myra's plans. In fact, they helped form the plan. They knew that you and your brother would never be safe with David after your family... They gave up their lives to save you and your brother." He softly states. Anger courses brought my veins and I push him away.
"No they didn't. Stop making shit up to make me forgive you. They would never leave us! They would never do something like that!" I angrily shout.
"They did. Tris, they knew they were going to die-"
"Shut the hell up! Okay?! I don't want to hear you, I don't want to speak to you, I don't even want to see you... We're over Tobias." I angrily whisper. Tears brim my eyes and I spin towards the door. I quickly the exit the office and take off running towards the elevator. He tries to stop me, but the doors quickly close between us. But just before they slam shut, he sticks a pink envelope through. It falls to the ground and I stare at it in confusion. I bend down and pick it up, 'To: Beatrice, From: Your Parents'.I stare at the familiar hand writing. A sob leaves my mouth and I shove the envelope in my pocket. The last thing on my mind is reading some stupid letter, it's most likely trying to explain why they left me, why they never told me about their secret lives.
A frustrated scream leaves my mouth and I slam my fist into the elevator wall. It dings to a stop and I rush to my car. Shauna is still in the drivers seat, Caleb is in the back. I throw the backseat door open and he jolts up.
"You knew, you knew about everything. Why didn't you tell me?! Even Robert was in on this stupid plan! Our parents are dead Caleb! And I had a right to know what was happening from the beginning of this! You set this up. Are you crazy! I could've lost you too! Oh my god... I could have lost you too." My rant dies down and a sob leaves my mouth.
"Tris-"
"Shut up! You idiot! You were going to leave me alone here?!" I scream out. His arms wrap around me and he pulls me into a tight hug."I'm sorry. Tris I'm sorry." He murmurs and I sob into his chest. My tears dry up within a few minutes and i pull away from him.
"Tris, Four just text me. He said not to let you leave." Shauna softly murmurs from the front seat.
"I'm leaving, and you're not going to stop me." I sharply reply. She rolls her eyes and turns to face me.
"Of course i'm not. I may not know whats going on, but i know that you should be making your own decisions." She states, "But where will you go?"
"I'll contact you. But i have to get going, I can't see anybody right now." I reply and nervously glance at the elevator. It's three floor away.
"Tris, I'm coming with you." Shauna says with confusion on her eyes.
"No you can't. I need time alone, please Shauna i have no time left. You have a baby on the way, stay with Zeke. I don't know how long i'll be gone for... Take Caleb, keep him safe for me?" I beg. Her eyes soften and she slowly nods before hopping out of the car.
"Here's all the cash i have on me. Just... be safe. Keep in contact, I won't tell anyone what's going on. I promise." She states and pushes a wad of cash into my hand.
"I'll pay you back I promise." I say over Caleb's protests. She drags him out of the car and he stumbles slightly.
"Tris,don't you dare leave-"
"I love you Caleb. But it's time for me to find myself. I need to go do regular teenager things... and I need to mourn mom and dad's death. I'll be back though." I promise and climb into the car just as the elevator doors crack open. I quickly shut the door and lock it. Shauna drags Caleb away from the car and I speed out of the parking lot. The last thing I see in my rear view mirror is an angry looking Four._________________________
