Four and I sit down at the conference table. Myra sits at the head and everyone else takes up the chairs surrounding her. Fours hand claps around mine under the table and Myra smiles.
"I will be bringing each of you into the next room to discuss what position you are receiving. Some of you will have a choice, some won't. Tris, you first." she says and stands up once again. I nod and follow her into the room connected off of this one. It has a simple desk and two chairs.
"I have three different positions for you. You can be an officer slash detective, you will be on the field for most of the time. When a crime gets committed and the FBI has to step in, you will be one of those people. Or there's the choice that you can work in the training room, almost like four. Lastly, there's a job opening for erudite, they're in need of someone to guard some new weapons. There's been a few attacks on there lab and they need someone to stay on guard twenty four seven." she states. I let it sink in and I bite my lip.
"I think I'm going to take the job as an officer." I reply quietly
"That's great. I'll have someone bring you the key to your new room, along with your badge and everything you'll need." she says and I smile.
"Thanks." I say and stand up.
"Tris. I think your parents would want you to read your next letter." she says, her eyes shine with something I haven't seen in a while. She's proud, that's the look my parents gave me when I told them how I got onto the track team. And the time I showed them my report card and got high honors.
"Thank you." I whisper then rush out of the office. The next person enters after me and I go to fours side.
"I have to go do something. I'll see you later." I whisper and he nods.
"Okay, I'll stop by later tonight." he states.
"Okay." I whisper and leave the room. When I arrive at my room, I go straight towards my bed. I get in my hands and knees and pull my shoe box out. The letters rattle around and I slowly open the lid. My hands shake as I rip the envelope open and slide the letter out.
"Dear Tris,
Your mother and I are so proud of you. We must be gone for over a month now. We can't even put to words how sorry we are for not telling you about our hidden lives... If you're reading this, you're officially an agent. You got past training. Congratulations, we are looking down on you will proud smiles on our faces. Be careful, being out there in this world is hard. We wish we could continue to protect you from everything. But we no longer can. We love you Tris, always and forever.
Your parents,
Andrew and Natalie Prior."My hands shake and I let the letter drop onto the floor. My back slumps and I put my head in my hands. Emotions rush through my veins like fire and a sob escapes my mouth.
They should have told me. I should have been aware that someone was after us... I should've been there when they got murdered and I shouldn't be here right now. I escaped death. But now, I have to deal with the weight of the world on my shoulders. My brother may or may not be involved in my parents murder. My parents were murdered. I just got into the FBI, and now I'm holding my self responsible for solving this case. Four and I are dating. This isn't how my life should be. I should be in high school still. I should be going to parties and drinking my young years away. Not solving the murder cases of my ex-FBI agent parents. My life... is nowhere near normal. Not in one way.
