Our plane hits the ground and slows to a stop as the flight attendants begin helping people unpack the overhead. I glance at four and he helps me stand up.
First we got on a boat, then that boat took us back to Los Angeles, only so we could get on a flight and fly to the unknown. Four has made sure that I have no idea where we're going. My curiosity is killing me.
We slowly exit the plane and I freeze when I recognize the familiar airport. We're in Chicago, my hometown. Four searches my eyes like he's trying to figure out if I'm happy or not. I can't decide if I am or not.
"I know I wasn't by your side when you finally saw your parents graves for the first time. But I was hoping that I could meet them, and tell them how much I love their daughter. I want to make sure they know you're safe with me." He softly states. My eyes glaze over at his words and I slowly nod my head.
"Okay," I whisper back. A smile lights up his beautiful face and he grabs my hand. He leads me through the airport then grabs our bags for us. I try to carry mine, but he swats my hands away.
He leads me down to the parking lot and opens the trunk of a car. He places our things inside, then opens the passenger door for me. I climb inside and he gently shuts the door before jogging around the vehicle and getting in the drivers seat.
He doesn't seem to need directions as he pulls out of the spot and gets on the highway. We stay in a silence, it's not uncomfortable like you would think it would be. It's kind of relaxing. I let my eyes take in the familiar scenery. This is where I grew up. Where I learned everything I know today. This city taught me everything I know.
My heart fills with memories, not bad ones, but good ones. All the birthdays I spent with my parents and brother. All the friendships that I created here. Every school dance that I attended.
A smile works its way to my face and four squeezes my hand. For a whole I thought this place held all my bad memories, the memories of my parents. But now I can see that they weren't bad, they're what make me, me.
We soon pull into the cemetery, the ride doesn't seem half as long as it was. We drive down the long cemetery road and four puts the car in park.
"How'd you know where they're buried?" I curiously ask as I unbuckle my seatbelt.
"Myra told me," he softly answers.
We climb out of the car and I trail towards the familiar grave.
Natalie and Andrew Prior, their headstones are side by side. Flowers are placed besides each of them, I made sure to have someone put flowers here every week. It automatically gets taken out of my check.
"Hey, mom, dad." I softly states and plop down between the graves. Four stays a few feet behind, letting me have a moment alone with them. I brush the weeds off of the stones and smile slightly.
"There's someone I want you to meet... I know that you guys are watching me, looking down at me, or at least I hope you guys are. So you probably already know who I'm about to introduce you too... I wish you guys were here in person to meet him... I love him, a lot. He helped me get my life back on track. He's been there for me, through everything, no matter how much of a brat I was at some points." I pause and glance back at four. He has a smile on his face, "Mom, dad. I want you to meet my husband, Tobias."
Four kneels down next to me and wraps an arm around my waist. He stares at the writing on the headstone and then glances at me.
"It's nice to officially meet you, Mr. And Mrs. Prior. I wish I could meet you in person. I wish I could tell you how much I love your daughter, and how I'm going to care for her for the rest of our lives. You raised two beautiful children, you did a good job. And I hope to raise your grandchildren just the same in the future. I'm thankful for you guys, because you gave me this beautiful girl that I get to spend the rest of my life with. I'll keep her safe, I promise." Tobias murmurs to the headstones, not a trace of awkwardness in his voice.
My heart warms at the gesture and I squeeze his hand. To anyone else this would look silly, me talking to my parents headstones and acting like they can actually hear me. But he gets it. He gets me. The wind picks up, and twirls around us. Leaves rustle close by and I smile to myself, because i know that they're here, and that they can hear me.
Tobias brushes a stray tear from my eye and kisses my cheek. He pulls me into a tight hug and we stay there, wrapped in each others arms for a while. When I pull away he smiles at me.
"I hope I made a good first impression." He comments. I giggle and stand up. He does the same and brushes the grass shards off of his jeans.
"Ready to go?" He asks.
"Yea, I'm ready." I agree and he links our hands together, a secretive smile is still on his face.
"I have one more surprise for you." He admits, I roll my eyes and playfully push him towards the car, "You'll like it, I promise."
