-----KNOWLEDGE AS I PICTURED HER ABOVE. THANKS katchat45 FOR THE IDEAS!!------

Her words startle me. Learn? What? I barely know her. I don't even know her name!

"Sorry," I say. "I don't know your name?" I hope she doesn't think I'm changing the subject. What she talks about intrigues me. Her existence intrigues me.

"My name. . ." She muses. Its almost like she needs to think of such a simple question. "In stories there are different roles." She says. Are we talking about the same thing? "There is the friend. The friend that helps you throughout childhood years." I think of Katie. Im not sure why. "There is the Enemy, Occasionally, a lover. It can go on and on!" She smiles. "But one of the most important roles is the one that sets you off. A person occasionally good, occasionally evil. My name. . . call me Knowledge. That is   my role. I will set you off on this journey."

"Knowledge, huh?" I say. I can't help but feel the power of her words flow through me. I don't think I'm going off on any adventure soon, but hey, I can dream.

"Fair enough, Knowledge. My name is-"

"I know you. You are Scarlet." My eyes widen. I never tell anyone my name. How? She continues to my amazement,"You are Scarlet Winterton. How could I forget the daughter of such. . . interesting people? You have hair nothing like Scarlet, yet they named you that!"

"You knew my parents?" I slam my fist on the table. "Tell me wh-"

"Where your Father is?" She chuckles. "No."

"But why?" I complain, "The last time I saw him was years ago! I have a right to know!"

"Because, Scarlet, you must find out yourself. That is part of the story you spin. However, I will tell you the meaning of your name."

She closes her eyes and takes a breath in. I hear birds chirping outside as the sun sets. I should worry about being home, but its so beautiful here, I don't care.

"The name Scarlet. . . came from one far before out time. . . far before your Mother. It came from a woman who was strong, powerful, she possessed an unfathomable power  and most of all, she was free at heart. She was against the walls, against the districts, so she fought it. She formed a group called seguimos siendo libres  that is, we remain free. Her group expanded so that hundreds of men and women joined her in the quest of freedom."

"Freedom," I find myself saying. "I though I already had that."

"Its all an illusion." She tells me. She then continues, "She fought the king and died in combat with him. Her last words were not begging for mercy, or even asking him to stop fighting. She simply stared at him and told him it was not over. The generations would rise from the ashes of defeat and destroy him. That is what she said."

"But why?" Confusion gets its powerful grip on me. "And how would she go to war? I just. . . its confusing me."

"Things are different then what they used to be," She looks at me. "If you dare think this is bad. . . back then it was worse." My eyes widen. How can that be?

"The storm has been silenced for a long time. Too long, I'm afraid. You see how the soldiers are! They are ruthless and blood seeking." My lip almost throbs in response.

"How am I involved in this?" I ask. "I hate being rude, but this is it. This is how we live life. Some old story isn't changing things."

"The story won't change a thing, Its you and a few others who will."

"I don't see how. Where does the king live, anyways?" She smiles. To my surprise.

"Outside of this wall, the wall before that, and even the wall before that! He lives. . . in the first wall."

I laugh. "You can't be serious! You actually believe there are more walls out there? Ive heard old myths of that but its all stupid! Impossible!"

"Where do you think the King keeps his soldiers?"

"At the command center a little west from district eighteen?"

"So you think thirty soldiers are able to take power over so many people? What a child you are!"

And just what does she think she knows? I am not smart, but I sure am not dumb. Just as I think of a valid argument to show her just how smart and mature I am, my stomach growls.

"Oh! I apologize!" Knowledge says.  She stands up, so I do too.

"Sit!" She commands. "Dinner!"

"Oh, no, I could not!" I glance out the window. Our talk made me lose track of time. its pitch black outside.

"You know full well what lurks outside looking for beautiful girls like yourself. Do my heart a favor and stay. Please."

My stomach growls louder this time and I smile. "Guess ill take you up on that."
