Sure enough, the paperwork is done at 7:40. It would have been done much later if it weren't for Abbey, who insisted on helping. She practically had to pry a paper from my hands.
"It takes getting used to," She admits as she stretches her fingers. "But we got this." Oh, you are a lifesaver.
Knowledge arrives at eight. I rest my head on the table and look at her. She carries a large bag on her back and walks in, obviously tired from the long day.
She calls all of us together. Just as we sit down, the biggest distraction in the world comes in. Grey. He walks in as if he owns the place, confident and quiet. Like ohhh, I wonder what he has under that shirt? Six pack?
"Well?" Knowledge says. I glance at her, and then Grey. His eyes lock with mine and I look away.
I wonder what would happen if everyone looked like Grey. . .
"The weather for the next seven days will be completely unpredictable. Always changing." He says. Knowledge nods and gives Grey a little look so You can tell somethings going on. What the heck?
They turn around and meet us.
"All of you," Knowledge says. "Listen." This isn't good.
Our eyes meet hers and she continues,
"I have trained you, these past few days very well. You've learned many things. But how well have you learned exactly?"
I shiver and rub my arms, goosebumps forming. My head, throbbing. What on earth? Its near July!
"You will find out." She says. "Starting tomorrow morning, you will go in the woods and survive for five days. The person that completes the challenge, and also completes it efficiently, will get their sword. This is also a time where you can see inside yourself, becomes stronger."
"No way," Katie says. She looks at us, surprised to see nobody is near as concerned as her. I might be more nervous, I just keep it secret. "We are seriously doing this? Thats suicide."
"When I was only twenty," Knowledge says. "I survived in the same woods for over two months."
My eye balls literally pop. I rub my eyes. For me, that a "No way".
"And Grey, here," She points to him. He looks ahead, no interest what so ever in what she says about him.
"My pupil survived two weeks easily."
"He was your. . ." I look between the two. So they do share a relationship.
"Yeah," Bruce growls. "Then again, we aren't all some magic prodigies that walk around swearing they own the world." Grey stares at him harshly. A look that an eagle might give to their prey. A look that literally terrifies me. Thank goodness he is on our side. Right? Maybe. Probably. Maybe not.
"Thus why I am only going to send you for five days," She says.
I rub my rands together, which feel like ice.
"Hallelujah," A voice says. "vacation from the stupid paperwork." Its as I say the last words, I realize that the voice was me. I swallow and blush. "Kidding," I say. My voice sounds scratchy and funny. I'm not sure I like it this way.
"Scarlet," Knowledge says. Her eyes have a worried look in them. I feel sick.
"Maybe you should stay here and rest."
"What makes you think that?" I ask. Do I really look that bad, or do mages have the ability to sense when someone might die? Either way is equally horrid.
