Twenty-Five

After spending a good hour or so talking about life, we decide to go home.

"Lets go." I say. I stand up and Abbey laughs.

"Wait, you have to leave a tip." She laughs and takes the remaining money, splits is and leaves it on the table. I eye the money in awe. Go ahead, leave it there. She knows best, I guess.

We see the horses coming into vision as we round the corner. First Abbeys horse, then Katie's, and then-

"Scarlet, wheres your horse?" Katie and Abbey yell. I jump as I realize my horse is nowhere to be seen. This is just Great.

"Did someone steal it?" Abbey asks.

"My horse?" I think of its attitude and laugh.  "Probably not." It must be around here somewhere, lets look. We run around the building a few times, looking around. We even look down a few streets, but nothing. This isn't good!

"We should split up." Abbey says.

"Yeah, good idea, Lets split up."

"Be safe!" I yell. "Ill take this way." I point north, towards the house. "Don't stray too far away."

"Got it," Abbey and Katie say. They run down east and west, leaving me alone. I run down the old path towards the house.  After running for a while, I hear talking. Its muffled but I recognize the voice. A middle aged man. One of the men who tried to take me and Abbey. My heart thuds in my chest as I inch closer. I hear his talking more clearly,

". . .How much do you think this one is worth?" I hear another voice, one I've never hear before.

"Lets hurry and smuggle it in. Sell it at the trading post."

They want to sell my horse? No!

"Consider it my revenge for trying to erase my mans memories!" One of them says. My heart rate speeds up as I realize what he references to. How could I forget that day?

I have to think quickly if I want my horse back. Do I run back and get help? No. There isn't time for that.

What would my Mom do in this type of situation?

She would use her brain. I close my eyes and think. I hear laughter and a very panicked horse. Poor thing.  If there is two against one, ill be outnumbered. Even with the help of magic. I could use the water sphere to choke them out, but my horse would be caught in it. Fire? I don't know how to control it! I lean against the wall, trying to dig out any more ideas. Thats when the perfect plan occurs to me. Instead of facing them head on, why not create a diversion. I could do that.

In the alleyway, there is on house. It has a flat roof, about ten feet high. I run up to the roof, push off the wall of the house, and grab on. With all the strength I can muster, I pull myself onto the roof. I small rock falls, nearly giving me a heart attack. Please, let them not come this way, not yet!

I hear the continued talking between the men. once I am on the roof, I take a breath in and yell,

"Robbers! They are stealing a horse!" I scream at the top of my lungs. I watch the men from the roof. They jump in shock.

"Brat! Get the person! Kill them!" The man yells to his comrade, urging him to run down the street in search of the imaginary person who witnessed their crime.

When the man is out of earshot, I prepare to finish the job. I want to use magic, but how? And what, exactly?

The right thing will come, just let it flow through you, Scarlet.

I gasp softly. Did I just think that? I feel as if the wind spoke to me. What a stupid thing to think as of now, when my horse is about to be sold. I close my eyes and focus on the breathing. It soon comes, the silhouetted world.  I look for his silhouette. I find it. I stare at him and feel a power flowing through me. I know exactly what is about to happen, I'm scared, but ready. Im going to use wind magic, but this time, not as much that it puts us in danger. I visualize I'm behind a gate, with a mob trying to plow through it. I can only let a little bit in . . . just a little. . . .
