ABBEY AS ME AND barefootgirl15 PICTURED HER!!! THANKS FOR MAKING THE CHARACTER WITH ME!!!
I grab onto the Mane of the horse and scream. It keeps running frantically.
The reins!!! Grab onto them!
If only if were that easy, they hang loosely three feet in front of me.
"I don't like horses!" I yell. The horse jumps and I bite my lip. I feel blood coming out and grit my teeth. This horse will not beat me. I grab on tighter and tighter, brining my body closer to the horse. Whenever we hit a bump, I almost stand on the stirrups for less bumping and more balance.
"Hey!" I hear a voice yell. I dare to turn my head around and Abbey and Katie are rushing after me. Or well mostly Abbey. Inexperienced Katie just stays close, a worried expression on her face. Abbey rides in front of me and grabs my reins. I screech as the horse nearly runs into a tree. My horse reluctantly stop and I slide off its back, backing a good bit away.
"That was close!" Abbey says, looking at the nearby tree. Katie nervously rides her horse over.
"Are you okay?" She asks. "I was so scared!"
"Yes," I say. "but what did I tell you! I knew I got a bad horse!"
"You got a jumpy horse," Abbey says, handing me the reins. "I think it got spooked at something. Maybe something fluttering in the trees, new surroundings, etc etc, it can happen to the best of us."
"Wheres the rest of the group?" I ask.
"Knowledge said for only me to go after you. Katie followed anyways."
"Rebel," I say, nodding to Katie.
"Indeed I am," Katie says.
"Lets go back," I say. "Ill walk, I never want to ride a horse again."
"Whats the saying?" Katie scratches her head. "Something about if you fall off the horse, get back on it?"
"Try it again," Abbey suggests. "Most likely got spooked.
"Fine," I say. I inch closer and let the horse smell my hand. "Hey girl-or boy, Do you have a name? Huh?" It muzzles its nose into my hand. I feel its warm breath against my skin and smile.
"See," Katie says in a whisper, "it likes you."
I walk to over to the side, keeping my hand on the horse at all times. I hold my breath and slowly get on its back. The second go by, the reins tight in my hands. I swallow. The horse bends its neck and chews on some grass. Did I actually do it?
"Congratulations!" Abbey says, in a low tone. "Ready to ride?"
"Not really," I say, completely breathless. "How do I do it? Make it go?"
"Gently squeeze its sides. To turn, use the reins." She turns her horse around and begins trotting back. Katie smiles and slowly canters after her. I pat my horse and whisper into its ear.
"Okay, Girl, not that I'm sure you're a girl but thats what i'm calling you for now. We are gonna start with a walk and eventually, do whats I believe is a gallop. I believe in you. Lets race!"
I squeeze her sides gently and she goes into a trot. The wind blows slightly in my face and I laugh, squeezing more. My horse nickers and runs faster. I laugh some more and yell into the air. I am victorious. Before I know it, my horse reaches a fast gallop. My heart thuds and I stop yelling. All of my being is used to not fall off. I race past Katie within seconds. Abbey is three feet ahead and I manage a small whoop of victory, as I zoom past the unsuspecting Abbey. When I get to Knowledge and everyone, I pull the reins back with confidence and smile slightly.
