Everyone begins talking at once. Some angry, some just plain surprised.
"Whaattt?"
"Are you kidding me? I got a family!!"
"Next month, theres a book sale!"
"Im not going to die,"
"This sounds way to impossible."
"We don't even have a plan!"
The only person who is keeping their mouth shut it Katie, who seems lost in deep though. Her be eyes resting on who-knows-what.
"What is it, Katie? I ask. Her eyes shoot up to mine.
"She forgets something," Katie says quietly. The yelling falters, everyone wanting to hear what Katie means.
"When the king is killed, the law of the land is that the killer will become the next king." She states.
"Theres a law like that?" Abbey asks. "Sounds kinda stupid, doesn't it?"
"That shows you the confidence and power the king has." She says.
"Whats the problem, then?" Ben asks. I swear I hear concern in his voice. I almost smile.
"Say. . . I were to kill the king, would I become the next ruler?" Katie says it with such certainty, almost a little pride in her voice, I'm startled.
"No, Child," Knowledge says. "We would vote in a new leader and eventually, tear down the walls. This is not a small scratch plan just put together by me, we have hundreds of people on our side."
"How would you tear down the walls?"Abbey says. "I thought the first one, the one that matters the most, has magic proofing all around it. Its like a dome, inescapable."
"We would figure it out when we got there," Knowledge states.
"Five minutes into this plan and it already has a loophole," I say.
"Look," Bruce says. We all focus our attention onto him and his bloodshot eyes.
"I'm not sure if I'm strong enough, bold enough, and hard enough to pull this off. Im not strong, I don't know magic, and also, this is suicide mission 101 right here."
"The only reason I stayed silent about magic, was because if you learned it before I knew you would follow the plan, we might be in danger. It seems you found a way to learn anyway,"
"Thank Grey," We all say.
"But I shall teach you highly deadly and powerful forms of magic, each to your own potential. I can already feel many auras of your own."
"Whose do you feel right now?" Katie asks,
"I feel, for one, Scarlets." She looks at me and I blink. That was very unexpected. I think of myself as the underdog of the group.
"You feel. . .different. And you will attract many people to you because of your strength."
"Tell me one thing," I say, "just tell me where my father is. I need to know that!"
She shakes her head. "I cannot tell you that, not yet, anyway."
We all go into complete silence. Each one views down every thought in their own head. The chances of death, what the plan would be, how they would train for it, if it were worth it to learn magic. The list keeps going. I make a decision. It may be a stupid one, but hey, the heroes are almost always irrational.
"Ill go." I stand up and look at Knowledge with a smirk. "I feel like if I left now, you all would start crying. Ill go."
"Me too," Katie says, to my surprise. "Maybe I can become a leader if I am first, a hero."
