Chapter 4 - We have pink panther in our school!

"Oh dear Lord!"

"No! It can't be!"

"How did you? When did you? Why did you?"

"My eyes! My eyes!"

"Guys! You are totally ruining it!" Al whined.

The four of us and most likely the entire school(I wouldn't know 'cause I never cared about anyone other than the five of us) were scarred for our lives when our pretty little Alicia entered the school gates with her hair colored bright pink. Bright baby pink.

"You already have ruined it, Al." Em deadpanned.

"I most certainly have not!" She huffed crossing her arms. Her cheeks flushed in slight anger at our reactions and she was starting to look like a candy floss.

"Well, atleast you don't look similar to Steph now." Em rolled her eyes and waved us a bye as she went for her class. As my eyes followed her departure, I saw everyone in the hallway staring at our small group, particularly at the pink haired girl. Some looked at Al with curiosity, some with amusement and some with disgust. I never really understood people. Why are they so nosey into other people's business? I mean it's not that the color of hair was hurting anybody. Poor Al looked like a deer caught under headlights with all the stares and not so hushed whispers; and this was saying something because Al hardly ever felt self-conscious. That was one more similarity between the two of us. It's a different matter when friends tease you, because that comes within their job description. But when others do that, it does nothing but make you doubt yourself. That's why I had, we both had learned to not give a care in the world about what people thought of us, because nobody has the right to judge me.

"Cal, Greg, say something!" Al cried. The guys had been gaping at her with their jaws hanging open as if they had a hard time wrapping their heads around the idea that our friend went out and did something crazy the third week of school.

"You look...." Cal trailed off.

"Good?"

"Yeah that. I'm gonna... go." He pointed behind his shoulder, turned around and left, still in a trance.

"Wait up!" Greg called out and left me alone with my best friend.

"Steph? You know you can tell me right? I really do look bad don't I? Oh God! I'm so stupid! I even heard someone scream 'we have pink panther in our school' flailing his about. " She sniffed, her shoulders were hunched and her eyes lowered in defeat. This was an important matter to her and so, she needed a boost. She had to become the Alicia we knew.

"You look really, really, really good Al." I didn't lie. She did look good. It was just that, the shocking pink hair gave us all a shock, that's it. Because, with that round face, big innocent sparkly blue eyes and a cute nose, she could hardly ever look anything but pretty.

"This is why you're my best friend! I love you! Muaah!" She hugged me tight before backing away for her class, blowing me a kiss. The skip in her steps was back and I sighed in satisfaction turning on my heels to go to the library. So this is why she didn't come over yesterday. Now that I think about it, she was awfully quiet as she drove me home. And trust me she is never quiet. She must have been mulling over the idea. Why did she do that? I wonder what Jane's reaction was to her daughter's new look. Ha! It must have been a sight to see. But main question remains, what made her do it? I'll ask her later. As to now, where could that book be? I had reached the aisle and craned my neck up as I walked looking for the book I wanted.
