Chapter 26 - It was midnight. And we were on the roof.

"No, no, no, Dave! The x goes over there, like the last twenty times it did." I sighed tiredly. Dave rubbed his eyes and shook his head to concentrate.

"Is it right?" He asked, yawning sliding over his notebook to me.

"Yes, thank you, finally. Now next."

"Do I have to?"

"Yes!"

"Fine..."

I wrote another question and slid the book back to him, relaxing against the chair.

"Steph?" He looked up from his book as I opened an eye.

"Hmm?"

"What are you thinking?"

"How to get you to stop being a child."

"That was mean."

I sighed running my hand down my face. I was tired yes, but somehow I was smiling a hell lot mentally for witnessing this other side of Dave. The one that had had enough of Calculus. His head jerked up suddenly, his eyes widening as if a light bulb switched on in his head.

"Forget this. Come with me." He quickly stood, grabbed my wrist and tugged me out of the seat, dragging me out of the room to somewhere and like the helpless creature I was, I followed.

It was midnight.

And we were on the roof.

Lying side by side.

Each lost in the beauty in front of our eyes.

"Steph?"

"Hmm?"

"What are you thinking?"

"How could you have been so stupid to not do this earlier."

"I don't know if I should be offended or happy about what you just said."

I turned my head to the side to look at him and grinned cheekily. He was already on his side half turned towards me, his eyes dazed.

"What is it?" I whispered.

"The stars." He said simply.

"Yeah," I breathed turning back, "They're so beautiful."

"Very beautiful." He agreed, his voice intense, deep and oh so wonderful.

"Dave?"

"Yeah?"

"Can I ask you something?"

"Shoot."

I hesitated.

"Go on." He encouraged.

"Where's your.....where's your mom?" I turned to look at him. His smile, warm up until then froze. Then pain flashed in his eyes and I ached for him.
