Chapter 11 - If looks could kill, I'd be ash by now.
Biting into the apple, I pulled our books towards me. His eyes roamed over them apprehensively.
"What?" I asked with a small laugh.
"Nothing." He shook his head still with that look.
"Let's begin?"
"Let's get this over with."
Let me tell you something how it went. Every single time he got something wrong, he quit and I had to work hard for him to build confidence. That being said, I for the first time realized, without having Hugh with us, Dave and I rarely talked. I found out it was always Hugh who stroke a conversation. Left alone, we both couldn't find anything to talk about.
Few minutes later, I found out, it may have something to do with Dave. I paid close attention to him. I had to, to see if he was following what I taught or not, and I saw, Dave opening his mouth and then closing it again.
He was shy.
And I had to admit, it was cute.
"Dave, wait."
He groaned painfully. "Don't tell me I'm doing it wrong, again."
I shook my head. "I meant to ask you something."
He cocked his head to the right, puzzled. "You know, when I said we're friends...? I began and he nodded. "I meant it." He still had that confused look, wondering where I was going with this. "That means, you can talk to me." I finished with a small laugh. His ears turned red and he quickly lowered his eyes to his books clearing his throat.
"I have never seen someone so shy." I wondered out loud. He mumbled something I couldn't catch.
"Sorry?" I asked wanting him to repeat.
"Nothing" he said, scratching his head, his tell of nervousness. I did not know what to say. Maybe he just doesn't talk much, except only when Hugh's around. Then I ought to thank Hugh, at least I get to know about him a little bit. So maybe, we weren't much different after all. I wasn't much of a social butterfly too, by choice. I didn't particularly like talking with someone other than my family and friends. I actually wondered how I got them to like me so much. Although they complained of me seeking isolation most of the time, they stuck around.

"Hey Devil." I chirped as I found Dylan at his lockers the next day. He looked at me shocked, noticing how it was the first time I had initiated a conversation with him but then he remembered the reason I was so chirpy and scowled. I gave him a big smile as he stared at me.
My inner mean subconscious laughed maniacally.
"Why so ever grumpy?"
I got a glare like fiery pits from hell. If looks could kill, I'd be ash by now. I always wondered why every small thing became a big issue between us. But Al always made me have fun with them. Just like she did this time.
