Chapter 8 - Don't question it if it feels right!

Looking up, my eyes went wide and a gasp left my lips.

"Woah baby!"

The house in front of me, if you thought about it, wasn't much different than the others in the row, but still it towered above them, like a boss intimidating his employees. I entered the gates, gaping at the looming figure above as it got closer and slowly raised my hand to ring the bell.

A few seconds later the door opened. I got a flash of a toned chest and a red faced Dave before the door slammed on my face. I stood there opening and closing my mouth like a fish when Dave opened the door again, thankfully completely dressed. I could see his ears were still red though. I stifled a laugh when he just stood there scratching his head.

"Can I come in?"

"Oh yeah. Sorry." He motioned for me to enter and closed the door behind me. My eyes went wide when I saw the way everything was ordered around the house. No one at first glance would believe that the house belonged to just two guys.

"Impressive." I said.

When I didn't get a reply, I turned, to find Dave looking at me strangely before it was gone and he flashed me a smile. Did the house get ten times brighter somehow? Err.... What was I talking about?? Umm.... Something nice.... impressive?

The house!

Oh yes, you're at his place, come on now... move along, you don't want to stand here at the door like an idiot!

"You've got a real nice place here." I managed to get out nodding as we walked down the hallway towards the living room. He smiled again.

"Thank you."

"And um..." He continued, "Sorry about earlier, I thought it was-"

"Baby, I'm home." In walked Hugh, striding into the house like he owned it.

"-him. I thought it was him." Dave finished.

"Hey you're already here!" Hugh skipped happily over to me and grinned goofily. These guys smiled a lot. And I mean a lot. Suddenly Dave sneezed. Turning around I found him glaring at Hugh and was relieved I wasn't at the receiving end. Yes, it didn't suit his always smiling face. But I have to admit he looked rather good with those green/blue eyes fired up.

"Open your bag." He pointed at it on the floor.

"Why should I?" I saw Hugh answer defiantly crossing his arms.

"Fine, better if you don't. Just take it back."

What are they talking about?

"Why should I?" Hugh repeated. I could see he was enjoying getting under Dave's skin.

"Because, you brought that....that creature." Dave grumbled. Hugh calmly walked over to his bag and opening it, took out a ginger cat who kept hissing angrily like it was totally offended at being kept inside a bag. Hugh stroked the cat lovingly before bringing it closer to us and Dave took a few steps back sneezing again.

"You mean this? This chweet lil' baby?"

I wanted to laugh. But I also wanted to smack Hugh for making that voice again.

Dave growled at him backing away, sneezing as he did.

"You just hate my cat because I love him more than you." Hugh smirked.

"It's not even yours." Dave scoffed.

"It's as much mine as my neighbors. I always take care of him when they're out." Hugh made a face.

"Just get him away from me." Dave said running his hand down his face exasperated.

They bickered for ten more minutes before Hugh decided he had tortured Dave enough and took the cat back home laughing maniacally.

"Sorry you had to see that." Dave said to my figure rooted to the spot watching the scene unfold before my eyes.

Was I supposed to laugh at them or check if my ears are bleeding, I didn't know.

"No it's... it's okay." I shook my head bringing some sense back into me. "So what do you suggest we do till he comes back?" I asked him looking around the house mentally begging him to give a tour. My friends had similar place, but this one screamed royalty. I don't know why, it just did.

"Why don't I give you a tour of my house?" He smiled. I almost did my happy dance. Almost. I nodded and let him lead me.

So, Dave confirmed what Al had already told me about his dad being a single parent. But he didn't need to know that I already knew that because that would sound real stalkerish. I even wondered why he told me that. The tour began with the library and I almost didn't want to continue but just sit there and enjoy the feel of shelves upon shelves filled with hundred of books. Almost. To say the least, it was one of my favorite part of the house. Keyword being, 'one of the'. They had a gym, no surprises there; a gaming room, a swimming pool at the back of the house and a movie theater down in the basement. His dad's study, it was one of the most well kept rooms I have ever seen and I knew if his father ever had the misfortune to my dad's, he would die of utter shock and disgust.

"What was your favorite part?" Dave asked leaning against the kitchen. I must tell you that Hugh was true to his word. The kitchen actually was the sexiest one I had ever seen. Not to mention the boy it had in it, standing there with his arms crossed casually while coffee brewed in the machine behind him. I sat on the chair with my legs tucked in as we talked. Considering yesterday was the first time I actually talked to this guy, I was being strangely calm and comfortable here, alone with him in his house.

Don't question it if it feels right.

Yeah, I know that's why I didn't make much of it. Anyway Hugh would be here any minute now. He's been gone for half an hour. I wonder what we could make today. It has to be something simple in the start. Maybe we could see how water boils or something like that.

"Earth to Stephanie?" I blinked and saw Dave waving his hand in front of eyes.

"Where do you go off wandering too?" He asked chuckling and I shrugged giving him a sheepish smile. Coffee machine beeped and Hugh entered the room at the same time.

Does he actually live here?

"Let's get cooking! Hey coffee!" He chirped before grabbing Dave's mug and gulping down half of that real hot coffee at once. I shuddered thinking about his poor throat.

"What do we cook?" I asked hurriedly, getting up before Dave could smack Hugh which he really wanted to, I could see it in his eyes.

Bad move Steph.

Yes, I agree it was. Because my question sent them into a ten more minutes of argument.

"That's enough!" And they fell silent looking at me as if they had forgotten I was even there. I had seen Cal and Greg fight but this...this was entirely different.

"Dave, it's my project so I should get a say in this don't you think?" I said softly.

"Yes, Dave. Exactly, Dave. Get lost, Dave." Hugh chirped happily. Rolling his eyes, Dave backed out to sit on the chair, challenging him with his eyes to come up with something better.
