Chapter 1

"Oh Phoenix! I'm going to miss you so much!" My best friend Hayley cried into my shoulder as we hugged each other.

"I'm gonna pray for your dad everyday, I promise. Promise me you'll let me know if anything, ANYTHING happens?" I nod my head, unable to speak, overwhelmed by everything that's happening.

"Please text me, I'm gonna miss you love!" That's when the tears escaped.

"Oh Hayley! I love you! I promise I'll keep in touch! We will meet up someday and hangout. And I really appreciate you praying for my dad, it really means a lot. Thank you for everything." She cried harder into my shoulder as I broke free from her grip and said goodbye to the rest of my friends. I grab Aly into a bear hug, then let go and grab for my guy best friend, Austin and hug him tightly, burying my face into his shoulder as he does the same.

"Imma be prayin everyday, everyday! I love you and your dad so much. Please text, call, write, anything! Just please keep me updated! I love you Nix." I cried harder into his shoulder.

"I love you Austin! Thank you so much! I promise I'll text or call or something. Just as long as you promise to stay out of trouble." He chuckled softly into my shoulder.

"I promise." I smile, pulling away and grabbing for Daisy, Austin's sister.

"Keep an eye on him got it?" She giggled in my ear.

"Got it commander. I love you girly, stay safe and I'll be prayin." I smiled at her.

You probably have no clue what's going on. I'm currently saying goodbye to my best friends because its my last day at school. I'm moving to another state with another family.

"Do you want us to take you home? I'm sure your dad is packing." I nod my head at Austin and Daisy, giving Aly and Hayley one more hug.

"I love you guys. I'll try to see you soon." I walked with Daisy and Austin to the car, leaving a crying Aly and Hayley behind.

"DADDY?" I called, walking through the front door.

"I'm here!" He called back.

"Austin and Daisy are here too! They came to say goodbye to you and me!" I told him, walking into the kitchen to get us a snack.

"Great!" He said, coming into the kitchen. He shook Austin's hand and gave him a man hug then have Daisy a hug. A weird, eery silence forming around us.

"When do you leave sir?" Austin asked politely. I tensed up, tears coming to my eyes, I feel Daisy's hand wrap around mine.

"Tomorrow morning. I'm flying out tonight with a couple other... Friends, that way we're there on time."

We live in Colorado. It takes 13 days for letters to get there, and about 13 to get back to me. So I would only hear from him maybe once every month.

"I'm leaving in a couple hours." Soon Austin and Daisy have to leave.

"Goodbye sir. Thank you so much. We'll be praying for you everyday." Tears came to my dads eyes as he hugged Austin.

"Thank you Austin." He let go of Austin and went to hug Daisy as Austin came to hug me.

"Bye. Thank you Mr. Mann. I'll be praying everyday! Thank you so much! Stay safe! We'll watch out for Phoenix." My dad cried as he hugged Daisy.

"Thank you Dais. I appreciate it." He sighed letting go of Daisy.

"You know we love you guys." I have Austin and Daisy each one last long hug.

"Thank you guys. I promise I'll text and call. I love you guys, bye." I kissed Austin and Daisy's cheek and let them go. I went up to my room to finish packing. By the time I had finished packing my things, the doorbell rang. Tears instantly fled to my eyes. I drag the last bag to the stairs and have my Turtle pillow pet, Tort in my hands along with the blanket my dad got me for my 16th birthday last month. I took a deep breath and dragged the last suitcase downstairs. I saw my dad hugging a lady tightly. I had four suitcases and five boxes, i had to pack everything in my room. I set the suitcase down and dropped my backpack on my back and my blanket and Tort and jumped into my daddy's arms.

"I love you so much daddy!" I cried into his shoulder.

"I love you too baby girl!" My daddy cried into my hair.

"Please be safe! I love you so much!" He nodded his head.

"And please write me as soon as you can and call me whenever you can. Here's my number cause I know you'll forget it." I handed him a piece of paper.

"I promise I will. And please stay out of trouble. This young lady here is gonna be your new "mom", she has nine sons." My mouth dropped open as I turned to look at the gorgeous lady.

"I am so sorry." I told her as she laughed, tears in her eyes.

"Sweetheart. Emily here and her husband were best friends with me and your mom when we were younger. I trust her with my life so I can trust yours with her." The phone started ringing and I knew it was time to go.

"Hang on." My dad told the guy on the phone. He came back in and have me one last tight hug.

"I love you honey. Please stay out of trouble." I cried into his shoulder as he spoke.

"I love you more daddy. Please please please stay safe! Thank you so much! Please write me when you can! I love you."

"Go before I change my mind and you know I can't. I love you Phoenix." I gave him one last hug and kiss before i was pushed out the door with all my stuff in tow. After the door shut and everything was in the car the lady turned to me and gave me a hug.

"Hi honey. I'm Emily Wilson but you can call me Emily. I'm so glad you're coming. Finally a girl in the house that I can shop and gossip with." I gave her a small smile, missing my daddy.

"Let's go hun. We've got a long drive and you still have to meet the family. I live in Nashville, so it's about almost an 18 hour drive. So sit back and relax. We can talk if you'd like, anything."
